Rambling moment related to talking about lights on vehicles, specifically underhood. One of my favorite features of any vehicle I've owned was on my 89 Silverado, and I'm sure those familiar will agree. Under the hood was a box that had a light on it with a switch, and the light was attached to about 15 feet of wire. You could pull it out and get to anywhere on the truck, and it was essentially like having a drop light with you. When you were done, there was a little crank on the side of the box to wind the wire back in and store the light again. I really wish every vehicle had this.

    Edited to add picture:

I had an '88 Chevy....that had that same light. It may have been the ONLY thing I really liked about that truck. Thanks for reminding me! I'm going to the pull-a-part after one of them first chance I get.

May try to get TWO of 'em. One under the hood and one mounted in the bed!

Looks like they're on ebay for around $30 with the pigtail. This will probably be happening on my truck now. I do have an inverter and could add a plug in light, but the nice thing about this is that it's always there, and I don't have to plug anything in, or make sure the engine is running, etc. It's just ready to go.

So I just ordered one for $15 because I evidently had ebay bucks just hanging around. Glad I remembered this! I also forgot that the light has a magnetic base so you can stick it anywhere while you're using it.

That '88 Chevy I had.....It had many "issues", as '88 was a total departure from the '87's and with that came teething pains....

The MOST annoying issue was the horn. Yep. The horn. The contacts for the horn (in the steering wheel) would contract and go off when the temperature reached 4 degrees. That was usually about 3AM on the coldest nights of the year. My neighbors LOVED it. The quick fix was to stick a quarter under the edge of the center section of the steering wheel to make it quit. At the time I owned the truck, I was working a job where we parked indoors. The garage door opener was activated....by sound....blowing the horn...so I couldn't just unplug it.

Imagine the joy of running outside in the freezing cold, just seconds after being rudely awakened @ 3AM, to silence your horn. Now imagine the joy of discovering you'd walked outside, pulled the door shut behind you, and forgot the keys inside the house.

That truck didn't stay long.....Toyota #3 was just around the corner!

I'm still holding a 4" X 20' X 30,000lb strap for ya. Too short for towing, it makes for a great compliment to a winch line. (ie, tree strap, etc...)

It's a dead lift/dead pull rated strap. I used one to pull a stuck farm tractor a couple years ago. It was a 14,000lb tractor stuck bad enough that a 16,000lb tractor struggled to pull it out, Strap never flinched. I've got 2 more new ones. Gonna hang on to one. The other is yours. One of these days we'll get together.....It'll soon be a year since Blue Holler!

Maybe a get together (@ Stooges in Louisville) on Saturday the 19th.

We'll be in Tennessee on the 12th. 19th is free (so far) 26th is open, but I may have to cover for one of my employees then. He's still got 4 weeks of vacation time to take before the end of 2016.
