Is there a brand anyone would recommend. The common ones I search for lorex, scwann and such have bad reviews. I need prob an 8 camera system with DVR....would prefer Poe instead of Bnc. Thanks

Hikvision is your go to for quality surveillance systems. They are on the pricey side. PoE means a true IP camera system, not analog. Dahua is also a big name in IP cameras.

Geovision is another big name, but I only really know about their analog products, not digital ones.

Try going to ipcamtalk.com, a lot of information there.

Can anyone recommend a simple WiFi + DVR kit? If seen such mixed reviews from the ones on Amazon. All these kits look to have china based support. I just need two cameras and a DVR I can export from.

Go to Nelly's security ...internet site. They are wonderful. They can even remote in and help you set it up cause it's a bitch to do. They are highly recommended on cam forums.

Most dvrs out there that dont say hikvision or dahua are just rebranded hikvisions or dahua. I do a lot of cctv for my job but unfortunately dont have any recommendations for the "homeowner" grade stuff Im sure there are good ones out there its just not my thing. But what I can tell you is be weary of where you buy from, which Hikvision and Dauhua for example there are a lot of counterfeits out there on Amazon. Maybe they will work maybe they wont, but dont expect any technical support or warranty. Also what kind of bad reviews are you seeing? Often I feel like these products get bad reviews because its someone trying to configure remote access who does not have any networking or firewall knowledge.

Amcrest is easy to set up, seems to work good, and isn't overly expensive. They have WiFi cameras that have SD cards as well as systems that write to NVRs. Amazon has the best pricing, I've found on this brand.
