Goodbye Mildred, Hello Efrideet

Hello folks. Some of you may recognize me as the owner of Mildred the stank booty lexus on stanceworks. Shes no longer in this world but her spirit lives on.
I had a rather unfortunate series of events with the abortion of a vehicle that was my 97 f150, (ill fated replacement for Mildred)windowed the block after a cross country trip and tons of maintenance. Giant waste of money. I spent a year carless and now have finally found something to replace it.

This 1996 Toyota Tacoma 5spd manual 4wd. Shes got rollup windows, a crap radio and some miles on her but I'm already in love with it. Looking forward to playing with this platform and learning some new things. Since shes got 202k miles, the first thing i did was check compression. It read as 165+ psi across the block.

So far have ordered plugs,ngk wires, a new disi cap,rotor and oil ring, valve cover gasket and an air freshener. Oil has been changed in engine, front and rear diffs, transmission and coolant flushed.

Been lurking on here and another forum for a few days. I really like THIS forum more than the other one. Tons more info and folks seem friendlier and willing to help out.

I got some rust action going on in the rear that scares me a bit, but i think i can just hit it with a wire wheel and por 15 it.

Thanks man. I love this truck and spending hours and hours pouring through threads for information. copy and pasting tons of stuff to a notepad file and whatnot. I want to do things the right way the first time.

Maybe I'm just paranoid because we never really see rust on vehicles out here in Southern California, but the rust in those pics on the frame has me nervous...I'd get that taken care of the best you can asap.

Great looking truck though!! I really do love the earlier first gens looks better than the later models (with the exception of my '04, she's my pretty girl)

 

oh guys im not gonna dump those all over here it still hurts me to see her in any form. I miss that thing greatly. Just google mildred stankbooty stanceworks - first build thread that pops up. only had her like 2 years but i did a ton of work and learned so much with her. She was a pile but she was my pile.

yea the rust has g2g asap. im actually looking for an FSM so i can do this distributor O ring before the leak gets worse. all parts are here.
