How are your windshields holding up? I took a tiny little rock to the top of mine at 1700km and it blew glass inside and cracked all the way down to the bottom on both pieces of glass inside and out. Then another small rock and bam another! Both of these rocks (pebbles) wouldnt have made a mark on my F350 windshield. These windshields are $650!!!
    Is this a common issue?

Google it. A lot of complaints about it from other owners of different brands.

I picked up 2 rock chips on the 2013's very first road trip then sandblasted/pitted on the first trip to Death Valley driving near the Eureka Dunes during a light wind storm, nothing severe weather-wise. My old Ford made it 20 years without a chip or pitting and it was used in the same road and weather conditions over and over...

This has nothing to do with brand or my ford / your dodge. This all comes down to "things are not built like they used to be"
And it sucks. I still drive my old dodge and in many ways my 20 yr old truck sounds and drives better than my brand new tacoma. no squeks, no leaks, no howling diffs etc... But a new dodge ford gmc toyota will have issues. Its how there designed. Its just sad

My f350 is a 2015 and it's holding up waaaaaaaay better than my 16 tacoma's! 30k more on it too. I've just never had such a fragile windshield on any vehicle.

I have a very very tiny speck of a chip on my windshield and thats it. I drove from Miami to Alaska and I remember driving down the Yukon and having to go down tons of dirt/rocky roads do to wash outs. I remember a truck coming from the opposite way and when he passed a rock smashed into my windshield and it scared the crap out of me. It was super loud and I thought for sure my windshield was done for. Nope just that tiny little chip you really can't see. Maybe some are defective? I don't know. Now of course mine will chip soon....knock on wood.

Both of mine were on the highway and weren't loud at all!!!! I have been hit harder (louder) before and thought there was a big chip on other vehicles but there was barely anything if at all.

Shit happens...I've had many cracked windshield in many brands of cars. Believe me, a tiny rock traveling at high speed, combined with the speed of your car, will crack a windshield and could kill you also.
One of the very few good things of living in FL, is that insurance pays for windshields. Without any deductible.

Hmmm.... I thought 3rd gen windshields were "thicker" to help with noise.

Sometimes I'd rather a windshield than any other part.
To this day I still have a nasty dent on the roof of my jetta. Remember when it happened on the highway a dump truck was ahead of me didn't have his load covered (guessing gravel or dirt) and decent size rock came out, could fully see it coming and it missed my windshield and hit my roof. At the time I thought thank god not my windshield...now with that dent on my roof I'd rather it be my windshield, would be easier to fix.

I wonder how much variation in glass there can really be in automakers. Figure all windshields have to meet highway safety act. Could just be people are getting hit in the right spots. After all they all use safety class, doesn't take much to break it.
Someone correct me if I am wrong that windshields aren't safety glass as well.
But I know all the other windows are which is why they shatter if you hit them with anything.

I bet you stopped following uncovered loads after seeing it coming and getting hit. Ha ha.

haha wasn't even following him he was in the lane beside me just ahead.
    Sucks but oh well.

I wonder how bad the new windshields could really be. Would think its just a case of bad luck of having them hit in the right spot with the right force to crack the windshield. I'm pretty sure windshields are safety class as well just laminated so when they do break they don't shatter like all your other windows.
Really can't see there being much variants in what is legal for windshields. Could even just be the angle from how they sit. Like if your windshield is more of a slope when it gets hit its more of a deflection, where if its more vertical it will take a harder impact and not deflect as much.
