    Good afternoon everyone,

So ive been browsing 4 runners since riding in one on a little road trip to Maine a couple weeks ago. Child is on the way, thinking about something bigger than the Tacoma possibly... The wife already has a mid size SUV but i like to plan accordingly just in case.

Basically, i loved the ride in it and like everything about it. Only big difference is the obvious one i would say, not having an open bed. I really only use the bed to zip my kayaks around on occasion and lowes trips if needed these days.

Ive been looking at various models and noticed some 2011/2012 limited seem to be around $27K with 60k plus miles on them, where as 2015 models with 20k on them are around the same price.

I also found a sweet trail edition with under 50k miles for 27k. Then on the same page a 2012 SR5 with 73,000 miles for $26,900

What gives besides leather and navigation really? Are the features really responsible for these price gaps?

I just bought a 14 trail edition already with suspension, bumper, sliders, and skids for $32k. It was supposed to be $35k, but it was at a Jeep dealer (they took it on a trade) and after 3 months they were quite desperate to sell it. Maybe see if you can find one on a lot that's not Toyota?

4Runners really hold their pricing well, especially down this way.

Trail editions have a few extra features that you really can't add to them aftermarket, so it all depends what you want to use it for. You can always buy any 4x4 and add a locker to it and be good to go if you need to keep it cheap. My vote is always buy the option with the lowest miles.

valid. The more i look, the more it looks like the 2013-2016 may be the better move. Finding a trail edition is hard though. There was 1 the other day that literally lasted 8 hours for sale and thats the only one ive seen in my 100mile search radius over the past week.

Location, supply, demand, origin, probably a few other factors dictate cost. Typically the Limiteds are more expensive used than the others but they also had a higher new MSRP than the TE or SR5.

Haven't pulled the trigger yet. Still trying to weigh pros and cons
The more I look at some on here and other forums the more I lean towards saying f-it and getting one.
They look dead sexy with a little lift and some nice tires for sure.

Rear coils, and SUVs typically always cost more. My buddy has a 2015 trail and it's pretty badass. Like others said check places besides toyota dealer. Chances are they don't know what they have.

I had a (used) 2012 SR5 Taco and now have a (used) 2014 TE 4R (with a little lift and some nice tires, for sure!). Bought it just over a year ago, stock, and have built it up a little.

Speaking of saying "f it", and this is 100% true and I took the picture: I was driving to the dealer and was kind of feeling pre-guilt for buying the 4R because it was at the extreme max end of my budget... so I was getting ready to turn around and go home and not buy it due to the money involved, when I happened to get in behind this semi - with the logo on it. I was like, "f it", that's a freaking sign... so I continued on and bought the 4R.

    No regerts!

haha, I hear ya on the pre-guilt scenario I'm in the same ballpark.
Sweet ride though man, looks real good.
