I'm on my 3rd big-box auto parts store replacement power steering pump and it looks like after just a couple weeks the latest try is giving up ghost too. Even with free warranty replacements this is getting to be too much. Anyone know who the OE pump manufacturer was? Did Denso make these?

    Thanks for the help all

Have you cleaned the reservoir screen in the bottom?

No, I haven't been cleaning the reservoir screen. I'll check to see what it looks like. During the install I drained most of the fluid out of the system and then refilled the reservoir. I didn't notice much of a restriction when refilling. Is the issue that a clogged screen may not be able to supply the pump with enough fluid?

    Wy09:

The failure is an extremely loud pump at all rpm's and loads right out of the box but it initially had good assist. Over the last two or so weeks the assist has diminished until now I have almost no assist. The pump is still extremely loud. I'm running 265-75R16's so slightly larger than stock but nothing huge.

Whether it was something I did or bad parts I'm still going to need another pump regardless. Any idea who was the OE supplier?

Could very well be the problem. Yes they have very little restriction when filling but they restrict enough when in operation to cause the whine.
Remove the reservoir from the pump assembly and if you have access to a parts washer, use it. You will be able to see light coming through the ports when the screen is clean.
If no parts washer is available, you can use brake/carb cleaner to flush it out.

As far as oem parts, I don't know, mine came from NAPA, seems to work fine.

Dumb questions: What type of fluid are you putting in? Are you checking the level after bleeding the system? You're not overtightening the belt and causing the bearings to go bad?

I wouldn't be surprised if the same aftermarket brand kept failing the same way from a bad design or low quality parts.

X2 on the screen. I actually rebuilt my pump not long ago. Had 220,000 miles on it. Bearing went bad. Wasn't whining but the screen was definitely restricted. If you're mechanically inclined I would recommend rebuilding an oem one. Maybe look on ebay or junk yard. I did a write up on how to do it. Pretty simple.

Well, very late reply on this one but I did clean out the screen and that solved it. It's been over a year and no more issues. Thanks!
