Thank everyone for great input!! With winter driving ahead this was a great thread for both some new strategies and reinforcing some tactics & gear that I already have/aware of. Shovels, maxtrax and chains in the truck bed are all check!! Some good ideas with other and how my truck will behave ('11 TRD OR).

    Happy Thanksgiving and Holidays!!

I rarely turn the lockers on in my truck in the snow, for anything over a foot I use sub 10 psi. with the lockers disengaged it allows the tires to spin and cut and find the traction, throttle consistency and momentum are huge factors as well. I actually did the same thing the op did the other day messing around for a photo op... I went forward and back at different angles until the front tires were able to clear the ruts. I suppose if you're new to snow and wheeling in it, it can be scary. side note I've seen more people slide off snow covered trails with lockers engaged than I've seen trucks with open diffs. that being said nothing says snow traction like a set of vbar singles :D

And before I got big boy tires

In my limited time in snow in VT it seemed like the rear locker hurt me more than helped.
