The one thing I have difficulty understanding is something that's very critical. I am a dunce when it comes to backspacing and offset. I've tried to read a few information write ups on the mechanics of it, and going about selecting the correct amount to prevent rub. I have been looking at the Cooper MAXX ST 265/70/17, but am unsure if they would pair with my projected setup. I want to pair them with the Fuel Offroad Recoil D584 wheels, and the OME 886 kit

I stumbled into the thread today and was curious what folks would say about some of the items you listed (particularly the lift) so I read the thread in its entirety this morning. I didn't purposely go back days and bring up old stuff... I simply read both pages of the thread and made a comment.

As noted in the comment above I didn't know what the 4x4 SR5 came with because it's not a truck I considered so I didn't know if it was something that you might consider for your build and I'm glad folks pointed out the differences because I in fact learned a few things when I came back to the thread. I in no way said or meant to imply that you shouldn't get the OR if thats what ya want.

On that note though the thread as made it apparent that anyone that doesn't echo what you have in mind already you for some reason mark as an enemy and assume that they must be out to get you. Granted there are quite a few trolls out there online, and I've seen some folks go way over there line on TW and on the Tacoma subreddit but some of the reactions you've had so far are just as bad, like the police force comment. Its the internet, folks out there are going to have different opinions, but thats half the fun. If you happen to disgree, no worries, keep on keepin' on and do your thing but you dont have to spit insults. After all, its not what a respectful adult would do.

I'll be staying tuned, I'm curious which parts you end up picking for the ride especially with the unique situation that being on the islands brings.

Just a note on the FabFours Vengeance series of bumpers. They use thinner steel that is probably more to achieve the "look" rather than the full purpose of a plate bumper. At least in comparison to heavier duty offerings. Even FabFours "Premium" line is thicker stuff. So really the vengeance line is a premium price for more look and less function.

Bounty: Truthfully I accept all opinions as such. I just don't appriciate when people flat out tell me what I'm doing with my life is stupid, ignorant, or object to my choices without inputting a sound and reasonable alternative. I have been moved from my original selection I given gear, so I don't mean to give off the vibe I'm that thick headed. Thank you for the response and hang on tight it's been a bumpy ride this far lol ;)
Z50: What I do for my career is of no concern to you. Yes I make my own money, and I do very well.
JDev: I understand it's not the best of the best for function, but it will protect the vehicle substantially more than the stock bumper. I like the fact it adds to the aggressiveness of the appearance without going over board, and making look like a rolling Monster advertisement.

So now that we're all over that lets move forward. With the OME 886 kit/AAL will Cooper Max ST 265/65/17 rub at all? And would someone please be able to suggest a backspacing and offset for that size?

What's up braddah. Sounds like you got some ideas, and no worry about some of the guys. Some just sound like they talking down but it might be meant differently. I had the same issue when I started talking about straight front for the new taco. Given I did change my mind, but that's why we post here.

Anyway, I think is mobtown right. Armor, lift and tires. I had a good dual purpose rig, but it is a compromise. So for my new one it's kinda like you, and I still kinda figuring mine out. Interested to see what you do.

My list so far is I got te mob town reinforcement for the tailgate. And I ordered a cbi front bumper. I went with aluminum for weight savings and knowing that I will not beat it to hell like I did my prev ride. I will be ordering the mobtown sliders and tailgate cap for sure. Might get the rear bumper, will be steel for rear impacts and weight balance with the front. Full skids. I am looking at getting the 17" Koenig countersteers because I like the look and the offset is not extreme. I am also looking at the scs wheels. Toyo or nittos for me. Lift wise I am doing more research into mid-travel setups. I don't think I need long travel but it might be something for yu to look into. And I got the TRD OR because it came with the rear locker, and has the larger rear axle.

Howzit braddah. I just move from Maui about 3 months ago I stayed up in Nahiku over there. Yeah I don't plan on treating it like an old beater, but I don't like to turn around and end my day when the trail gets a bit rough. Have you done anything to your suspension thus far? I'm looking at a gear list of:
    OME- BP51's/ Dakar leaf pack
FabFours- Vengeance front and their Premium rear for balance
RCI- front skid, gas tank, and A-plates
    Cooper- Stt pro 285/70R17
    Fuel- Recoil D584
    Magnaflow- Catback

Im still figuring out the details, and the gear is not set in stone. Im trying to locate information about if ill require extended brake lines which Id like to upgrade to braid stainless steel anyways, a differential drop, steering stabilizer, bushing material, greasable shackles, and everything thats not macro when lifting a truck. Im doing my best to set this up properly to avoid any, and all problems down the road. One step at a time

Buy kings with compression adjusters and 700lb springs. Good for a lift. Low compression for on road comfort. Turn knob for high compression to bomb dirt roads. Best of both worlds with some fine tuning. RCI is awesome by the way.

Oh long travel is nice but not necessary in the situation I mentioned earlier.

What size tires do you recommend for 17s? If not load E and a 2 to 3" lift.

Depends really. Some people can get away with 285's without replacing UCA's and some can't. It's odd, but I'd run 285/70

I haven't done any of the suspension yet. I want to do all my armor first, so that when I do the lift the weight distribution will be how I want it, and I am adjust the height and alignment as it will be. I am not gonna do the diff drop I would rather have the extra ground clearance. I am also going to go either icon or king for coilovers.

Sorry I'm a little late to the circle jerk here but I'm a Big Island boy who grew up in Kona Town and moved to Hilo for work. I have a 2016 TRD OR DC My set up is the 2016 5100's with 2887 OME springs. I have 1.5 inch blocks in the back with Bilstein 5160s. I have 265/75r16 Kbro2s. After my suspension settled, I'm sitting at approximately 23 inches in the front (2 inch lift) and 23 inches in the back (1 inch lift). I do have a slight Tacolean but it's not to noticeable. With my set up I have done R1, R10 Skyline, Mana Road, Makalawena, and Manuka (haven't tried to get to the cliffs yet but maybe later this month), South Point (suicide rock), and Green Sands. I have done all of this without any trouble or bottoming out. Yes I can't go 100 MPH off road but it gets me where I want to go. The TRD OR suspension was ok, but I wanted more. It was too soft and the dampening wasn't good for what we deal with here on the Big Island. I'm very happy with my set up.

I believe that you should do what you wanna do. It's your truck and what might seem stupid to you, it's perfect for someone else and vise versa.

+1 on this. I was lucky, hit a rock and bent my OEM running boards causing a small dent in the rocker panel. Could have been much worse, but now I have sliders on so I feel better :p
