Lol I feel that my buddys dad is jim smith the owner of ultra wheels, and I have friends at fabtech and camburg that run the show even carli suspension. but all they have been saying is itll ride like a Cadillac and accelerate like a prius lol. and no way am I dropping 7k for a 70hp trd supercharger. last thing I want is an S/C pr a Turbo on stock rods and pistons even if it is a yota.and my condolences for that 4l60e that was the absolute worst tranny ive ever seen. I almost called a lemon lol. so regarding your 3.5 taco is it bone stock? and if not what are the best aftermarket necessities on these mini trucks?

I bought RCI Metalworks sliders, and did some other mods like the bed lighting, but performance wise, it's bone stock at the moment. OEM paper air filter even. I will wear out these tires and then decide what I want to do suspension wise, but engine wise, I'm just gonna probably do an exhaust for the sound and probably call it there.

If I got larger tires I'd probably regear to a 4.30 before I bought more engine power, seeing that will improve response, and improve 4LO's ratio off road.

Toyota doesn't have to handicap their engines with lazy throttle mappings, torque management, etc. like others do because they overbuild their transmission, diffs, etc. So, they offered a supercharger for the Tundra and the Tacoma that would allow you to keep your factory warranty. The Aisin transmissions they use can handle it--the 5AT behind the 4.0 was also put into the Tundra behind the 4.7 (which you could also get a TRD supercharger for) and was reliable in that application. The rear diff behind the 4.0 Tacoma was pretty close to what most makes put behind their full sizes. The 10.5 in the 5.7 Tundra is about what you'd normally see in a 3/4 ton.

Having said that, they may be starting to do that now for fuel economy. But the 4.0 was not that way at all--snappy throttle response, nice shifts, etc. Doesn't feel like you have gear boxes full of frozen molasses like a lot of other makes do.

I agree js312. My Silverado had the torque management, and at times felt very much like this truck does in regards to how early it shifts to keep RPMs down, and the laggy throttle response.

I guess I adapted to the 3rd Gen immediately and didn't find issue with it because I drove my Silverado for 6 years and it felt the same way.

Hit the Tow/Haul button on the Silverado, or the ECT Power button on the Tacoma, and all of a sudden a completely different vehicle emerges.

I think to disengage the TC you can push and hold the button for like 8 seconds until it lights on the dash.

If it's the same as my 2011, yes. Do this when stopped.

Some say this isn't completely disengaged, but I can't get it to intervene at all in empty snow covered parking lots.

I'm a huge fan of the 4.0. The response is immediate with lots of grunt down low.

If you think I'd waste money on a trd supercharger you're funny. It would go to magnuson.
