Thanks, guys. As Tom Petty once so famously whined, "The waiting is the hardest part!".

I'm always worried about car theft too..

What are the things you guys do to detour ? Aftermarket alarm? Club?

I knew someone had actually used an old iPhone and installed it under the dash. Pays $10 extra a month for the data plan. And uses find my iPhone app in case someone steals it.

That is supposed to work, as long as it is charged and hidden.
@MojaveMadman had his pride and joy ripped off, he now sports some alarm that is much harder to get past than stock.
I've been thinking about a switch that kills one of the sensors needed to start, crank position sensor, or maf, something that would just allow the truck to crank over without starting. I used to have one on my Powerstroke.
I also used to take out the fuel injection fuse and replace with a dead fuse when leaving my truck anywhere. That was after I had one ripped off and never recovered.

Another win for Albuquerque. I love how all other state threads are about meetups with other members, cool shit that happens, and bs about trucks and ours is about the meetups with mechanics to install security systems, cool shit that gets stolen, and bs about theft prevention

Aftermarket alarm with a sticker on the window stating my truck has an alarm. Club even though a car thief can saw through the steering wheel and get it off (happened to a neighbor). And a Cyclops anti theft module thing (not on my truck but my dads). After the truck was stolen the first time he installed that, someone tried to steal it a couple weekends ago and they couldn't steal because of the mechanism. They did tear up the dash trying to figure out how to steal it but the truck is still there

    This is way too crazy...

Let me know what you want! Shoot me a PM and we can sort you out!!!

From my research it is all about layers. Just the alarm can be beat, just the club can be beat, etc... But if you have all of them, they will realize they can't get past it all....

That and move out of ABQ!!!! Sorry.... But this place is getting worse and worse and the local government doesn't care. They all tuck away in their areas far away from the chaos and just turn a blind eye to it. Talking to people that are LEO, locals, other experts we have on base, they are all fed up and do see it getting any better. I love all the great people I have met here in ABQ over the last 3 years, but sorry... I can't wait to move back to CA. And that should say something considering who runs that state...

Exactly. Layers is a good way of prevention.

Yup I am hoping I get this graduate position up in Vancouver Washington for next fall. That will be my ticket out of here!

Haha you're good! It's just bad how reoccurring the subject is!
Basically. Think it took my dad an hour or two to install. And yup before you put your key in the ignition you have to press the button on the extra key fob to allow it to start. Pretty nifty thing!

Nice congrats! What are you getting you grad degree in?
Yeah ABQ isn't all that bad. Love the breweries, the Nob Hill scene (not so much downtown, sketches me the fuck out), and the mountains and river. Will be parts that I will miss and then parts I will not.

Yeah it is a little expensive and conceals really well. But if you had layers like Chris said with an alarm, club, and then a makeshift switch it can detour many criminals

Watch out with the fish squeezer bashing @linkgoesnowhere ! I'm a fisheries person too haha. I'm working on my masters at the University of Arizona though. I was actually in ABQ a couple weeks ago for a Desert Fishes Council annual meeting haha.

    @WildLand you at UNM?

Oh awesome! I was there too. I was working our USFWS booth while not listening to the talks. Are you under Scott Bonar?

Nah I graduated from NMSU and now a temp employee with USFWS doing silvery minnow work

No shit! Yep I am SNRE, and I actually did my undergrad here too. I graduated in Dec 2015, meaning we were here at the same time. Small world haha.

Nice, way to ignore my talk:rofl: Haha yeah I am under Scott, I have 1.5years left. Were you under Colleen?

Also, apply for that full time fisheries biologist position with your agency! One of my former lab mates had it in ABQ, but is moving to Texas for a job there and it just opened up I believe.

    :goingcrazy: this is crazy!

Hah no shit! You know what office?

Haha I may have saw it! What was your talk? I love Coleen but no I did wildlife science for my undergrad and didn't do a project either... didn't realize the importance of it till now!

Oh Roy's position? I work with him! Yeah I applied but I doubt I'll be competitive enough. Need my masters and more experience not only to qualify but to make me more confident that I can do the job.
