I have a Double cab 2nd gen so it is probably a little bigger. It would be an 8" and judging by setting the 8" I have laying around on it I could make it work I think. But i'll cross that bridge when I get there.....if I get there

I have a 2nd gen so I really don't think it'd be that hard. I have a few reasons for not wanting side fire. 1) I hate having exposed subs. just makes me feel like i'll punch a hole in them throwing stuff around or climbing around my truck. 2) I think it would very uncomfortable to have a sub fire into mine, or my passenger's, side constantly. 3) I have no facts to back this, there may be some but I'm unsure so this for me is purely opinion, but I feel like a down/rear fire would sound better than a sub firing directly into my side. 4) I like a more hidden look. I like people to get into my truck and be surprised by what they hear since they can't see anything that looks abnormal.

Heh, I never thought about the rear passenger thing. Nobody's lining up to squeeze in the back of my x-cab anyway. And I discourage such things.

    And speaker grills wft

Here's a sealed box I made for my 8" Kicker L7 woofer, down firing. It's 1/2" MDF, screwed glued & caulked. Recessed terminals on the rear face where the seats pivot (not 1" of visible wire). Had a local upholstery shop put high density seat foam on all sides, black vinyl sides & color matched tan on top, then thick fancy seam stitches (can't remember the term). Rockford Fosgate 500w digital amp under copilot seat. Don't think a 8" can thump? Let's take a ride through a ghetto with lots of car alarms :headbang: Yes the truck rattles ;)20160512_120003.jpg 20160512_114952.jpg 20160512_114928.jpg 20160512_114907.jpg

@Mr Marv built the boxes and amp rack. I carpeted them and the back wall. The kicker comp rt 10s sound so good and they hit way lower frequencies than I thought they would in the small enclosures.

    Pheh, Never mind then .

I've been thinking of building a similar box for my x-cab. I have a 12W3 sitting here doing nothing and am toying with the idea of building something huge and vented for it that would take up the whole rear

T-line is what I had in mind. Or just a slot vent tuned really low. You're right though, I don't really need to use the whole area so might leave a cubby for ski boots or sommat.

Alpine Type-R Shallow 12" in the 3rd box I've built for this sub and used 8g wire. Finally happy with it so odds are I'll sell it soon and build something else.
