I need to install a break controller. Is the 2016 Tacoma Off Road with the tow package already wired to install a break controller?

Actually curious about this as well. My new 12' TRD Sport came with the pigtail and all I had to do is just splice my Brake controller into the pig tail and plug it in under left side of dash.

I asked dealer and they said the Terd Gens don't come with it anymore?

Yes. Tekonsha has a harness that plugs in. I don't recall the part #. There is also a thread somewhere here on how to find the plug in.

The tow package comes with both the 4 and 7 pin connection in the bumper. I am not sure but had figured the extra 3 pins had something to do with brakes.

Yes the harness connector is with the wire loom behind the cover by the left drivers foot. 3rd gen with tow package is wired for brake controller. I used Tekonsha controller inside the little box to left of steering wheel to mount it, fed tekonsha harness through hole I made in back of box and simply plugged into the harness connector hidden behind wire loom. it is there. see the towing thread for many pictures and directions. I tow a 4,250 lb Hi-Lo with dual axle and brakes. works fine.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. I ordered the Tekonsha Primus IQ break controller (TK90169) with the plug in wiring adaptor (3017-P).

    See my sig for mods
Where I used to work, breaks were controlled by a buzzer over the intercom.
