Those of you with CVTs, are your interior poles a full 1in in diameter?

 

Older CVTs do not have 1" internal support poles. Newer ones are 1". They switched in 2013 I think. One easy way to tell is the rainfly also changed about the same time. They went from a very light color (pale green) to a dark brown. The newer rainfly also has sides on the entrance opening where the older ones did not.

In this pic the two tents on the left were purchased in 2011. The one on the right is the newer style. Mine is the middle one.

I purchased a tuff stuff tent because per the specs, it was nearly identical to a cvt, and the price was just too good. Though the tuff stuff site claims 1" poles, but they are not even 0.75".
So I am a little disappointed by the false advertising. Though as long as it can withstand a pnw storm I guess it's OK, but still not cool.

 

Yeah, I measured mine once but I can't recall if the were 3/4" or 7/8". They are definitely less than an inch but are thicker than 5/8" though.

 

I'm just bummed because it's closer to 0.5 than 1.0.. And then I was curious to know if it was the same case of excessive amounts of rounding with cvt too.

Any issues with yours since it is the older/smaller diameter?

 

No structural issues at all and it's seen it share of bad weather/high wind situations. The only issues I've had was with the travel cover zipper.

 

well I guess if you think about it its like wood when they say its 2x6 but really its like 1 1/2in x 6 or 1 3/4

 

I have an 11 year old RTT and have had no problems with it, really as long as you take care of it you should have no problems regardless of brands.

 

Ha maybe, except every time I buy aluminum stock the size is exact. For lumbar, its assumed, or at least it was, that you would cut down the rough cut 2x4, etc.

So tuff stuff responded and said that they meant the base frame extruded aluminum channel is 1in in diameter /width. But to me you don't claim a square extrusion has a diameter heh heh. So now the site lists the base as 1in diameter and the tubular frame as 16mm in diameter. So now I'm just nit picking heh heh.

 

I bought an air matress for my RTT to replace the foam matress it came with. This thing is way more comfortable than the foam matress! For any of you that like to keep your bedding in the tent when you close it up. This might be a good option for you, as you can let the air out when closing it up and still have room for the sleeping bags without needing to sit on it to get it closed... @lowinhz

I've got the FrontRunner RTT. If you're real skinny, it might be okay. But I'm 250lbs. and best I can say about their matress is it was flat without any rocks under it!

 

When I first put mine on the truck I thought it would be okay. After sleeping on it for a couple nights, I decided it was lacking alot of support! My experience with the camping style air mattresses has always been pretty good!

 

I'm 280 (6'4" and muscle) and I have the geo tent and I found it very comfortable. Spent about 5 nights in it now and 3 in a row.

 

The FrontRunner is a "lite weight" tent at only 88lbs, so the matress is kinda soft. Laying on it just slows your desent to the floor by a milisecond or two...
