We all do it at some point. I shot the biggest button buck I've ever seen a couple years ago. Could have sworn it was a mature doe. The biggest deer of 6 out in a field. Just happened to be a collection of fawns I guess. Hard to tell sometimes.

Now that you have your first two in the bag, you can be more selective next time.

I like to do it the redman way. I will not kill anything I do not eat, and I do not waste my kills. I also will not take a shot I am unsure of.

You realize that they used to set fire to the prairie and haze the buffalo herds to get the entire group to go off a cliff, right?

    http://stateparks.mt.gov/first-peoples-buffalo-jump/

They took what was salvageable. A lot of it was not.

My pro tip would be to find a good gunsmith. I got one pillar bedded last year and it was $150 and now shoots sub-MOA. Here's a pic of the first 100 yard target after picking up the gun. This is an older .243 Model 70 that was tennis ball sized groupings before the work. I was a happy man.

My bro made & smoked some fantastic elk sausage for dinner yesterday. That alone made it worth the 1-hour drive to his house.

I just busted out another rifle I usually do everything but pillar bed but I figured I have the tools so I thought I'd give it a try this time around.

I'm right there with you. I do all my own work as well. I would've done it on an old beater project but not this one. The wood on this gun was too pretty to risk messing it up to save a few bucks.

Let me know how it goes!

I'll let you know. Is that 243 glass bed and free floated barrel?
I'm going with adjustable pillars to make things a little easier.

I started doing my own Euro skull bleaching. I found that the Taxidermy places online use bleaching powder and 40%peroxide. I also found easier to go through Sally beauty supply to get the same products listed in the taxidermy site much cheaper. So far Ive done 1 mountain lion, 1 bear, 1 moose, 3 deer.

Anyone use a GoPro or anything to film your hunts? I picked one up over the summer for fishing and ended up picking up a mount to mount it to the gun or a fishing rod. Forgot all about that mount until yesterday. Mounted it on top of my scope. It's pretty cool.

I use one bird hunting. Much better on a head strap- you can see the dogs work before you shoulder the gun.

Acrually my avatar is a frame shot from one of my filmed hunts..

I like the mount on the scope. It sees exactly what you see. The only thing is once you shoot, the recoil screws up the view for a second. Wasn't bad though. I did accidentally have it on wide view, so everything is kinda small, and being 35 feet up a tree doesn't help anything either.
