I bought my 15 Access cab (4 cyl 4x4) with an installed hitch and 4 wire plug. The equipment was listed on the window sticker.
This sticker is on the hitch. I am just curious if this is a class 3 or 4? I can't see them getting a different hitch just for the occasional 4 cylinder. I tow well under the 3500 lb limit for the 4, but this sticker has me wondering if it is the same hitch that comes with the V6 tow package?
The Tow package hitch is Class 4, correct?

Looks like the receiver is a class 3 (500/5000 max), but you may be limited to 350/3500 because of the 4cyl engine. Class 4 I belive is on the V6 that go up 6400# towing weight equipped correctly.

I have looked at V6 Tacoma's with the tow package and the two look identical.
Of course you have to adhere to stated limits, but I wonder if they really use a different hitch on the occasional 4 cylinders that come with it factory installed, or do they just slap a tow package hitch and add the sticker?

hitch is probably same. raiting is based on suspension and engine power so I'm sure 6 cyl has beefier rear suspension and can handle more toung weight then 4 cyl suspension. towing raiting is less for 4 cyl then 6 obviously.

    Hold the phone.

No 2.7s come from Toyota with a receiver, the tow package doesn't exist for 2.7 trucks.

The V6 is a class IV. An OEM receiver taken off of a V6 and onto a 2.7 is still a class IV, but the ratings for the truck are different.

The 2.7 4x4/Prerunner trucks are identical suspension as the V6 4x4/Prerunner trucks.

My 2.7 came with hitch and 4 pin plug. The items were listed right on the window sticker ($400 if I remember correctly). It even came with a Toyota rubber plug.
Not sure how often they did this. And I am fully aware it is not the V6 tow package. I never tow more than around 2300 pounds max anyway.

Those were added by the dealer, not by the manufacturer. No 4-cyl comes from the factory with hitch or wiring.

There is NO configuration of Tacoma for which a 5000 pound tow limit applies.
EXCEPT, if this hitch is being used as a replacement for a damaged/rusted FACTORY hitch on a truck that originally shipped with a tow package.

The reason is that ONLY the vehicles that shipped from the factory with the actual full factory tow package have ratings that exceed 3500 pounds.

A V6 that shipped from the factory WITHOUT the tow package has a 3500 pound limit!!!

You cannot alter that limit, since it comes from the vehicle's GCWR.

I wonder how it showed up on my Window sticker as a listed item? Are those printed at the dealer and placed on the window. Could be as I have never asked or wondered.

I was originally simply wondering if my hitch was the same that come with the V6 tow package. I am well aware of the 3500 lb limit.
