A little rear end advice...

    Hey guys, I bought a 1999 supercharged Tacoma last May and am starting to upgrade some of the suspension. Planning on sticking to stock height. The leaf springs are shot so the frame of the truck is riding on the bumpers on top of the rear end. New shackles and bushings are on the way. Leaf springs in the next week or so.. Also ordered new bump stops. By looking at the picture do I need to keep the block on top of the axle? I want to get it back to stock.. Thanks for the help.

    The block is a lift block, remove it to go back to stock height.

    Is this a 5 lug or 6?
    Isn't that block raising the rear?
    5 lug axles go on top of spring, 6 lug under.

    It's 6 lugs. The springs are pretty much flat. I'll be getting new U bolts too.. OEM bump stops showed up last week.

    well, taking out that block will lower it more.

    They appear to be the stock length. There is a lot of weird stuff going on back there and I just want to get it back to normal. The parts I am ordering are all stock length.

    hmmmm. Even my dakars are pretty flat but those do look like Toyota springs. I'm thinking you'll be needing new springs.
    laughs....what about the front?

    It looks like he just kept cramming stuff in there as spacers til it started riding on the stops so he put large ones on.
    Sounds like something I'd do.

    I got some
    $93 Bilstein 24-022842 4600 Series Shock Absorber
    Bilstein 24-022842 for the front. I'll be butting those on next weekend. This morning I pulled the front wheels off to see how bad the bolts were. I've been soaking stuff with liquid wrench for a couple weeks in preparation of all this up coming work. Here is a pic of what is on the front right now. The bushings on the lower mount for the strut are totally gone.

    You say planning on sticking to stock height. But does that mean you aren't away that this truck has a 3" lift?

    I am aware of what is going on now after crawling around down there this morning. So yes, I know it'll be getting a little lower but I'm fine with that. I just want things back to normal and ride nice and smooth. :bikewhoops:

    They are mounted to the leaf. The top on the frame is just a plate for it to hit.

    They dont look like any bump stop i've ever seen on a Tacoma. Or the plate on the frame for them to hit. Looks like they were going for airbags eventually.
    The front strut top plates have been altered to.

    Those are timbren bump stops. They are a upgrade over stock. They may be longer but theyre softer for a less harsh bottom out.

    Those look like timbren bump stops if you haven't figured that out yet. They are very good bump stops and are not cheap.
