Running ECT....

ECT = better throttle reponse, less searching for gears and likely a bit less mpg.

Good for when you need to be a bit more aggressive, hilly terrain or increased load capacity.

Used properly you should get longer life out of the tranny.

 

What is it actually doing when we push that button? Turning off the torque converter lock up?

 

Feels like remap of throttle for more response and delayed upshifts so truck is in the powerband when it shifts to the next gear. Also seems like 6th is locked out in D with ECT on.

I hardly ever use ECT. At 17k now and had TSB Rev 0 at 12K. Truck is actually shifting pretty well lately.

ECT button will get you laid. Made the chick hit it when we left the bar.

 

I think it drives great with it on but I like my MPGs more so far.

Just the opposite! Have only used (tried) it once or twice in the year since I have owned my truck. Acceleration and shifting seem just fine. Maybe I'll try it more often but really don't see it usefulness.

 

Use it when I haul firewood or other heavy loads, want to pass someone at a stoplight, or during long hill climbs. Otherwise it's off. Truck drives fine workout it engaged, it's not a V8

 

^ it's not about a displacement issue, rather throttle response. IMO truck shifts and drives a lot smoother with it on. YMMV

I have not noticed a MPG penalty for using ECT. I used it on and off this past weekend for my trip back and forth to the outer banks and I averaged 22 MPG. That includes sitting in traffic on I-64. I prefer the feel of the truck with ECT on.

 

I calculated my MPG when my truck was brand new (less than 1K miles), and it was pretty crappy...less than 16 mpg's. Probably due to new truck, heavy foot. Still loved the new truck. Then after 5K a I tried it again. It was a little better...over 17, but a little more highway too. Then I drove one tank with the ECT on almost all the time...only forgot it a couple times. I love the way it drives and I got the best mileage yet at 17.9 mpg's over 305 miles. Maybe I was taking it easy because it drives better? Or is this just due to my engine breaking in?

 

this is when i usually use it as well. gives me a nice little boost when on the on ramp.

 

Just calculated MPG's again after mostly highway driving and with the ECT button pushed and got my best yet...18.7 MPG's.

 

But it unlocks more power and this you are supposed to loose MPG!!!

I run mine on 24-7. It's the same ON or OFF

 

I tried ect once and needed to accelerate really fast to get on a road and when I hit the throttle the gear didn't change. Never had that problem in normal mode
