    Hi,
So I have a 2013 Tacoma, OEM touchscreen headunit, no navi.
I was considering installed new speakers possibly considering keeping stock tweeters.
I've had a system before but it's been a while.

I have an amp, 2 6.5 speakers (planning on getting the 6x9 to 6.5 adapter)

What exactly do I need if I want to keep my stock head unit without splicing wires? There was a writeup I found on the forum, but am currently unable to locate it.

You'll need a line out converter (LOC). If you are only doing the fronts a 2ch will work. If you plan on doing rears or sub get the 6ch version.

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_161LC2IB/AudioControl-LC2iB-Black.html?tp=2001

Speaker wire adapters so you don't have to cut factory plugs in the doors

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120729...43932&awat=pla&awnw=g&awcr=49902701785&awdv=c

I don't know of any way to get around cutting wires behind the dash. You need to tap the LOC into the the output speaker wires, then run wires from the amp back to the input speaker wires (or run wires directly to the door speakers). If you replace the stock HU then you don't need an LOC and you don't have to cut a single wire in your truck.

@1sttruckguy78 Has installed an LOC in his 3rd gen and might know a way to get around cutting the wires under the dash to hook up the LOC.

Can a mini amp like be added to get more power to after market speakers?

    http://www.crutchfield.com/p_500KTP445U/Alpine-KTP-445U-Power-Pack.html?tp=115

I don't have the JBL system but do have nav and Crutchfield site says can't add due to external amp. I didn't think the stock system has an external amp but have not looked.

45x4 is weak.. match the amp to the speakers you want or vice-versa. A nice pair may require 75-100w per channel, or if you want to run a 45x4 amp, can get lower end speakers - although all you might gain is volume.

If you do not have the JBL setup from the factory yes you can install this to any set of speakers you want.

The question is, what speakers do you currently have? The power packs are great for low RMS speakers.

This. If you want to keep the factory HU, there will be some cutting. If you want to keep the stock HU but dont want to do the cutting, may need to have a shop install the LOC and Amp for you. Install might run anywhere from 300-600 depending on what wires you choose and how you want the hardware mounted.

Well I probably could have paid less, im at the point where I dont want to do any more audio work. Got a quote from one place.. told them where I wanted everything, supplied the hardware and picked my truck up a few hours later.

I installed the EpiCenter, door speakers, and sub/box myself though.

This is how it ended up, they built the wall, i didnt ask them to so I thought everything was just going to be screwed to the storage bin:

I haven't bought the speakers yet but I was just thinking anything would be better than factory. I was just thrown off by Crutchfield telling me these amps won't work. Thanks for the info!

Looks like the shop did a great job with the install. I was thinking of doing a full system but didn't want to lose any storage space behind the seats so going with a mini amp to provide better power to aftermarket speakers.

I did all the speakers including tweeters to some pioneer ones, kept the stock head unit and run without an amp. ITS SO MUCH OF AN IMPROVEMENT ITS NOT EVEN FUNNY!

Stock speakers are JUNK, the drivers on the fronts are literally the size of 5 quarters stacked.

Here is what i used (there are newer models out now).

    Fronts - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A0LXRL8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    Front Adapters - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IIC6CPE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s03?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Tweeters - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00009QOU5/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (cut the connector off the stock tweeter and made my own mount out of a small piece of aluminum... NOTE wire coloring is backwards on the stock tweeter, black on the tweeter side is actually positive on the harness side, red is actually negative, apparently this is to give more of a sound stage... i kept all positives together)
    Rears - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A0LZHYS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    Rear adapters - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007ZQGZWO/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Does anyone happen to know how much power the OEM HU are putting out? Don't think it can be anymore than 20 rms

That was my original thought but from my experience, aftermarket speakers sound way better with a little bit more power than the stock HU can provide. That's why I want to put a mini amp in there and use all factory connections aside from the power and ground cables.
