I already bought the prettied up kit from voodoo for this, but I don't really like when information is censored from people for any reason (I prefer to let people make their own decisions). And for those who disagree with the censorship of this info in the other threads and have been asking me for it, well here it is.

    --------

This is the kit from voodoo ($129).
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2016-2017-diy-remote-start.465319/

From the info provided, it looks like the extra stuff your getting by going through voodoo is wire taps, wire loom, a self tapping screw, some zip ties, and a voodoo sticker. Except for the voodoo sticker, I have all that in the garage already and would solder instead of tap. The advantage of buying from voodoo is that this is prettied up already and has more dumbed down instructions so it's easier to understand how to hook it up. Plus they will help you if you don't understand their instructions. I doubt they will replace a fried ECU, but you risk that no matter what you do if your not careful.

    --------

Below is info on the *more* DIY solution using the same DEI DBALL2. With this route, you need to pretty up the wires yourself and have a better understanding of wire diagrams (or pay someone to help you). Someone else may have to post up more specifics since I didn't go this route. It would be nice to see if this can be successful too because the price point is much lower for a DIY solution. And it will be interesting to see if someone who goes this route can assist others by posting their install instructions (they would be the real heroes).

Here is the link to the DBALL2 (last I checked $40):
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Directed-XP...-Door-Lock-Interface-/201515307045?rmvSB=true

You have to give them your truck year/model and they will program it for you (free). And you may be able to call them and ask for specific programming (e.g. longer run time, allow door unlock without shut off, etc). I have not tried. They also provide wiring diagrams specific to your vehicle. I'm not sure if they are the same ones provided by DEI, but below is a link to DEI's.
    https://directechs.blob.core.windows.net/documents/dball2-tl8_en_ig_vm20160608.pdf

So that's all I have on this right now. If I get some free time in the spring I might try this out and post more info for others unless someone beats me to it.

    --------

EDIT: Someone did go this route and it works: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...ing-oem-fob-2017-tacoma-push-to-start.466230/

    --------

Also: for those who think I have some kind of vendetta against nick or voodoo, stop hallucinating. I thought it was a great idea, and I'm glad someone made it into a working product (that's why I bought one). But I also believe people should be able make their own choices and evaluate their own risks in a DIY project.

Looks like there are several available on eBay with free flashing of the device. Next time I am near one of the authorized resellers of DEI I'll ask about just buying the device and/or flashing only and see if prices are comparable to the ~$30 from eBay. Anyone got a quote on the device only (no install)?

Great alternative for those that would like to save a few bucks and have time on their hands. To me personally given the price point of nicks kit, I'd rather spend the extra $80 and have a ready to go kit as my time is worth more than that.
