I read it, feel exactly the same way as my dads old '90 X-tra Cab Toyota pick up, first time I ever got steer a vehicle on my dads lap, I was 4 lol!

1990 Nissan pick up 4x4 king cab 5spd, my dad started teaching to drive manual at the age of 9. So many good memories with my old man, we would clean it, fix it, cruise in it and etc.

1992 4Runner 22R-E 5spd, my dad would let me mod the truck as long as it tasteful lol, I was 11-14 at the time.

If money wasn't any problem and I had the room, I would love to restore these trucks to what I remembered as a kid.

$195.00 shipped.... I would've been stupid not to buy it for that price. Almost 4 hours of my time later was well worth the effort. It's been over 10 years since I've had one.

As far as I know, the Auto LSD became standard across the board for the 2009 model year. Aside from PreRunners and X-Runners, did any 2WD 2005-2008 Tacomas have Limited-slip/locking/posi rear ends from the factory? If I were to buy a 2005-2008 non-prerunner regular cab 2WD, would I have to put an LSD in it?

My truck has a little panel on the right side of the steering wheel where the cruise control stick would go. I found out that my truck was already prewired for a backup camera since high-end Tacos came standard with them, so is it possible my truck has the wiring for the cruise control already in place?

Yep, it's plug and play. Super easy for auto trans, slightly more in depth (but only slightly) for manual trans.

To each his own but I never use the CC on my truck anymore. It doesn't drive smoothly. Safer to drive with my right foot.

Only time I use CC is on road trips where I have long stretches of open highway. It is great to have though in that situation.

There is no use for CC in the Bay Area.

If you do a lot of long distance flat stuff it is nice to have. If you mainly do short stuff, or drive a lot in the mountains like where I live, you won't use it much.

I haven't installed it, because I don't mind driving and CC always gets worse MPGs

Where did you hear that? Cruise keeps you at a constant speed and helps increase mpg

If you can't drive it will give you better mpg. But if you watch how you drive cruise control usually will yield worse mpg. That said I drive a lot for work and love cruise control!

Maybe in Florida. Not in the mountains of Montana.

Awesome story OP. Reminds me of my dads old pickup. It was a Chevy from the 70's (sold it when i was 16). But he had blown the stock motor and put in a used corvette motor. That thing could get up and move. Used to sit on mom or dads lap on forest service roads and get to drive. That thing was fun too with the Aux tank. Had a like 20gal main tank and 20 gal aux tank. Since it got all of 8mpg it was quite nice having both tanks.

Sadly it got to the point the floor pans started rusting out and it was going to need mechanical work (it would die quite often till it was at full temp) so my dad sold it to a guy he worked with who just wanted the motor. Guy ended up holding off on taking the motor for a couple years cause he liked the truck so much. Once it got to needing money he pulled the motor though.

Yet another "drunk grandpa" story, once again involving an actual drunk!

This was back in the summer of 2015 sometime. My boss sent me to get something (probably ice or soda), and I parked my truck in the narrow alley in front of the bar where I work to unload. I left the truck in the alley, locked up up with the hazards on. When I came back out, I find this obviously intoxicated 20-something guy admiring my truck. He sees me and says something like "Dude, this is a nice truck! Dodge Dakota?"

I thanked him for the compliment but went to explain that it was a Toyota Tacoma...

And he wasn't the last buzzed individual to admire my truck either...

But seriously, a Dodge Dakota? They never even made the 2005-2011 Dakotas in regular cab...

    LOL!

One of the places I go to for work once a week or so requires me to check in with a security guard before I can get in the gate. In addition to my personal info he has to write down the details of my vehicle. Every week he asks, that's a Silverado right? Maybe he's drunk too
