So I'm installing a Fortin remote start module in my 3rd Gen. I was wondering if anyone here has any input on deciding to solder the connections or using quick splice butt connectors when tapping into the ignition system. I've soldered before, but I'm no expert. Anyone have any input or suggestions/tips?

    Thanks guys!

Generally I do both. Cut the plastic cover off the connector, slide a piece of heat shrink over the wire and then crimp. Hold your solder at the end of connector and put heat about 1/8" from the end. Doesn't take much solder to ensure a good connection on each end. Let cool then slide down the heat shrink and heat it up. Probably overkill for most here but I'm extremely anal about wiring since I had a dash fire around 30 yrs ago from shotty wiring. (Not my work) I have never had any issue at all in that time from doing it like this and I was hell on rigs in my younger days. Hope my .02 helps.

I agree I overkill it too, the heat shrink makes it look "professional" too:thumbsup:

Must be why everyone I know comes to me for wiring, from rigs, trailers and houses. Usually only charge beer and I share so that could be it also.
