I was at the dealership this morning getting my last Toyota Care oil change and wandered out to the lot to look at the new Tacoma on the lot. Out on the lot two guys were wiping the heavy morning dew of of the vehicles with Chamois and they went down the line doing this to car after car.
As someone who only uses Micro Fiber cloths on my vehicles I was appalled to think that the cars were probably covered in dust that was mixed in with the dew and they used the same Chamois over and over and the chamois had to be dirt covered. When we bought the wife a new Subaru a few years ago I saw the detail guy using a filthy chamois wiping it down and I knew the thing had to be filled with dirt and junk.
Am I wrong to think this or am I over thinking this. After years with a black T-100 that had dirt swirl marks on it I try to wash and care for my vehicles paint. Comments??

    Good for you!

Yep. They aren't your responsibility, so it doesn't really matter.

There are too many serious things in the world to fret over car lot jockeys.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
I'm glad I got mine right off the truck.

However, it's a black truck. So it gets dirty very quickly. It's also pinstriped (thanks, K-trail), but I managed to get most of the bad stuff out. But, it's also dented on the bottom bedside because I followed @SMKYTXN 's line.

Point is, if you're not going to keep it as a show room truck, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Unless it's missing a large chunk of paint/clear coat, there's more important things to worry about with these trucks.

Dealers have no idea. I have seen plenty of swirled up vehicles on showroom floor due to dry dusting.

This is what they refer to in the detailing industry as "DIS".......Dealership Installed Scratches. It is disconcerting what dealers do to a nice shiny finish. I recently purchased a 2016 Highlander for my wife. I had to stand and wait for, what seemed like an eternity, for the "detailers" to finish their "prep". They did a terrible job! And, like you, I could tell they were just marring the clearcoat with the dirt embedded in their shop towels. The salesman said, "they are very thorough"! If they really wanted to add visual appeal, I wish they had removed the wheels and cleaned off the shipping coating from the hard to reach surfaces of the wheels. They especially slobbered "shiny protectant" all over the interior hard surfaces. But, in their defense, they have LOTS of cars to complete in a shift and aren't going to do it as professionally as an independant detail shop. It's all about having a critical eye for visual appeal!

Not at all man, not at all. The guys in charge of cleaning the vehicles on the lot for starters are not paid well and secondly, they don't have the proper tools and/or time to do a proper wash.

    Quick horror story of mine:

My wife had a 2006 Audi S4 Avant (it's a Wagon) in a color known as brilliant red. It was somewhat of a rare vehicle for the states having the 4.2L V8 in a wagon and the color. We took the car in under warranty for a misfire on cylinder 6 (bad coil pack) and I placed signs EVERYWHERE on the car that said "DO NOT WASH!!!!!" One on the dash, one on the gauges with a sticky note etc etc and explicitly told he service do not wash my car. Well they f-ing washed it anyway!!!!! I was 30 yards from the car as the service writer walked out with me under a bright sunny afternoon and could see the marring and swirl marks. I stopped in my tracks and just gave him the WTF look. :annoyed::annoyed::annoyed:

I co-own a detailing business so I corrected the paint myself and sent the dealer the bill which was north of $550. They didn't even bat an eye and I received a check within a week after calling Audi of North America and sending pictures of before and after.

People don't understand signs with writing anymore. If you would have drawn a picture and placed a red "X" over it (with absolutely no text), they may have gotten the idea.
