Got a trip coming in 2 weeks to Big Bear , and was wondering if anyone's gone up there yet needing chains?

Rain is forecasted to come down earlier in the week before the weekend.

I got a new set of 285/75/16 BFG KM2 MT right now so I'm wondering if that will cut it ?

It's required by law that all vehicles must carry chains in the vehicle in the big bear area during winter months. We just received 10" of snow 2 nights ago and there was a r2 chain restrictions in affect till today. Weather up here can change in a heart beat from rain to snow. They also have been inforcing chains with vehicle check points fyi.

Are you 4x4? If not you need to get come cables or chains if you plan to visit the mountains when snow conditions exist.

Having them in the truck is a must but you probably won't ever need them. I have a cabin up there and have been going up for years. Even with street tires, I've never needed to use chains in a 4x4

Couple weeks ago 330 had r3 restrictions. Tried going up to have my girlfriend watch snow fall for the first time got to see snow fall, but i turned around at the checkpoint. I was too lazy to put chains on after sitting in all the bs traffic

just got back from bear today. we went up Friday night and 330 and 38 were closed and had to take the long way around on 18. they required chains on all vehicles including 4x4 with AT/Snow tires. took us almost 6 hrs to make the drive from OC. FML. So i would definitely have them in your car just in case.
