I have been reading and researching the Amazon, and eBay tech stream software....

My main concern is how to install it. I have read mixed reviews on successful installation. My machine runs Windows 8.1 64 bit. Does anyone here have one of these tech streams on a machine like this?

Most of the threads Im finding are XP/Vista/7 based.

    Thanks

The eBay versions of TechStream are unlicensed hacked copies. Some have reported their antivirus flags the software to have virus'. I run mine on an old laptop (XP) that I use just for that software and nothing else - especially no online banking, etc... I also keep Wi-Fi off on the laptop.

At worst case you could run a VM and install W7 on that, don't install networking and then install the TIS driver and software. A real copy requires networking to phone home to keep working, if it is hacked you would want to isolate it or modify your HOSTS file to redirect their address. Of course there is no warranty or support for it is it's pirated so if it don't work you are out your money as I doubt you can get a refund from eBay.

I have one. It was a job getting it up and running. There is a very long thread on Tundratalk.net that deals with this.

Most do not use the software that comes with cable. You can get the program off the thread.

It was real easy to install on my old 32 bit machine, but it can be installed on 64 bit machine if you fallow the instructions listed in the thread.

I hear people talking about setting up and running VM, but I honestly don't know how to set one up. I really know very little about computers..

I hear you. When I got mine, I had no idea what was going on. It forced me to learn about.

I did set my second machine up to run in virtual machine mode. The program was so slow, it was almost unusable.

The best thing would be to find an old 32 bit machine. That's the easiest, but those machines are getting rare. You can find them on Ebay pretty cheap, but you never know if they will work right.

It's not that hard, there are tutorials on you tube. I run OSX Leopard and an XP on my Win7 64 laptop, I have a lot of special needs and don't want to drag around multiple machines. You can install the free MS version and actually download an image of the OS you want to use from the 'net.

So if I understand this correctly, tech stream does not run on windows 10? I have partitioned part of my hard drive on my MacBook Pro to run Windows 10 in hopes of using tech stream, does anybody have a link to the hardware they are using? Also a link to download tech stream would be very much appreciated, I'm kind of weary about downloading a pirated copy, but will do what it takes

Got TS working on a Windows 10 64 bit system. Thought I would share how:

Get a Mini-VCI J2534 Cable (MVCI) (ebay, UOBDii, etc)
    Download Techstream : http://blog.uobdii.com/toyota-techstream-v13-00-022-02-2018-free-download-on-win7/
Dowanload x64 driver patch (attached to post - mvci-x64). (Win10 has Future Technologies(industries?) com/serial bus drivers pre-installed aka no need for cable drivers)
    Install Techstream
Follow instructions provided by above website about switching vim/modifying execution path in TS
    Use Techstream

Thanks, I will check it out. I have v12 or something installed on my old laptop but would like to get one that can actually ID my truck. Hopefully this one works for me.
