Yea, Ive been trying to avoid going to the dealer, since its my only vehicle. But seems like everyone else had to, just to fix this issue.

its only a half to and hour wait really, depending on if the guy is ready to update it. plus I don't know if you have text alert where it shows up on your screen but I turned that off cause at first that was one of the reason it froze and what not so I turned it off but had to get my update 2 times first time it worked for a lil but I had to go back the second time to get it fully updated. I guess at the time they had multiple updates

Only the dealer can update the firmware as far as I know. You likely updated your software version. Mine rebooted a few times one day a couple weeks back, but nothing since. It's been working better since the firmware update. All my text messages are being received and communicated to the radio now. Before, the radio wouldn't pick up the messages.

I have access to alldata at my job. Looked up my truck (2015) by vin and printed out the tsb. Called the dealer because I needed my 20k maint/oil check/change and told them they needed to update the software on my stereo while there. Since July 4th my radio has frozen or rebooted 4 times. Called yesterday took in this morning said it was updated and maint done. We shall see

Have any of you had luck once your firmware was updated? My 2015 has frozen and rebooted about once a month since I got it in March of 2015. I've always had a phone connected via Bluetooth, but the problem got worse a few weeks ago when I got a new phone. It's a work/personal phone, so I cleaned out my contacts, but still have around 850. The stereo hasn't been able to load my contacts yet, and for the last few days will reboot itself every 1-2 minutes when my phone is connected. Hopefully that's a problem that can be solved with a firmware update?

How can I tell what version I have, and what version is current?

Can't answer your questions, but I do know that my '14 was freezing up and/or rebooting daily. Dealership updated the deck three weeks ago, and I haven't had a problem since. Not sure if there is a TSB out, but the guy at the counter told me it was pretty common.

Ugh! This seems to be my problem now! I don't have an entune stereo though! But I just don't know what's going on! A month ago I had my truck rewired from tapping into the doors for my sub/amp to going into the back of the factory deck. All was working great until a few weeks ago when it all started with my Bluetooth acting funny with not picking up calls then all of a sudden the whole stereo, including the clock going completely off for a bit then coming back on. Done that off/on quite a bit then it went off again for days without coming back on! Checked all the fuses and they were all good! Rode around with no music for a few days and even the USB port wouldn't work then all of a sudden it comes back to life! Long story short I took it in today to our local stereo installer guy and he took the deck out thinking maybe something was loose in back but nope all wires are in solid and even he is baffled! He suggested swapping out the deck for an aftermarket one just incase the stock deck has a glitch and so we ordered one with our fingers crossed that this will work and fix the problem! I just don't get what's wrong! If this is a coincidence with this happening after the back of the deck was touched and it's just a stereo going bad versus a bad electrical problem I don't know what I or what could be done! Any advise or thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

Honestly I don't think its the deck problem, its probably firmware. now I do have entune on my truck but I don't know if the non entune stereo has a firmware you have to upload. cause I had some what the same issue as you on my truck I had to take it to the stealership to have them update my firmware on my deck. and I did that 3 times before it started working and function the way its suppose to do. but I hope your deck problem gets solved from aftermarket deck GL

Hi there. Although I don't think my stereo is an entune stereo because I don't have the app button that I've read about. Yet again this morning I had the black screen of death and I just don't understand why my clock goes out and also my USB/aux outlets don't work as well? Is this an electrical problem and not stereo related?:notsure:

yeah I think they do it through USB to update firmware. but if you already replacing it with a aftermarket deck then no worries. but if anything u probably can sell that on ebay or something but I would just cross reference and see if you can update that deck.

So it's possible that this non entune stereo would need a firmware update as well?

it might be possible I don't know casue I have entune on mines but I would just ask the dealer if they do updates on the non entune as well and if so they should be able to update it for free

Apparently our Toyota has no clue what update I am talking about! For neither a non entune or a entune stereo! :annoyed::frusty:

but seems like there isn't anything about the non entune apps needing a firmware.. but I hope that your aftermarket works out better

So i finally get my new pioneer deck installed hoping this fixes the shutting off and on problem on my stock HU and its sounds awesome and im as happy as can be hoping this was the fix! Low and behold on my drive to work this morning BAM the new deck shuts off and on again!! What the heck is going on!!!??? The guy who installed the new deck thinks maybe the person who added my sub to the rear of my stock HU somehow messed with the harness or something could this be a possibility? He suggested maybe he has to cut off the harness and wire it old school and perhaps this could fix the problem? Thoughts on this is greatly appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

DONT cut any harnesses!!!!.... need to isolate the problem. Find a routine to duplicate it. Can't duplicate can't fix. If you had a reputable installer first off they wouldn't recommend to cut any harnesses. Second, if there were rcas or anything aftermarket behind the radio for a sub on a STOCK head unit, he would have bypassed it and hook it to the new stereo. Third, if you didn't install the sub OR the new head unit then how would you know if the wiring was messed up. A good and reputable installer would have corrected it or at the very least noticed something looked wrong. Potentially leading to problems or a fire hazard. AGAIN!!!!! DONT CUT THE HARNESS. There are simple ways to test the input and output of a harness. Starts with wiggling it in many parts of the Orem and aftermarket harness to see if cuts off.

My new deck was installed by a reputable installer this time around hoping to fix the problem. When he removed the stock HU he checked wires and said he couldn't see anything wrong and that the wires were solid therefore he was hoping it was just a glitch with the HU. He is baffled and don't understand what could possibly be wrong and I guess that's why he suggested running his own wires and by passing the plug in harness. I'm from a small island and sadly we don't have many installer options so a lot of people do it themselves here. I'm stuck because if he doesn't know I sure don't! I do know one thing though, there's NO way Toyota's warranty is going to cover this with my deck being replaced!! :frusty:
