I actually watched the Red Wing video to figure out how to loosen the damn things LOL. Red Wing isn't far from me, I like Red Wing boots. We have a hospital\clinic there and I am the first to volunteer to go there. A lot if most of my footwear is made in America. Or Italy. Or Austria. But by far America.

I have some Alpaca socks picked up on STP a number of years ago. They are soft and agree, but for some reason none of them really agreed with me. Have a lot of Smart Wool merino wool socks and after a few years they get thread bear on the bottom. So last couple of years been trying Damn Tough from Vermont. Life time guarantee but they have less merino wool to make them last longer. Still looking and sounds like it is a very individual thing with body sweat and composition, etc. Still looking for the perfect sock. I do know there is no way in hell I will ever wear cotton socks again LOL, been years. Take that back I do wear a cotton composition sock for working out in the mornings but not for long and they go in the hamper ASAP.

:sorry: That is a common complaint with boots and people with wide feet. I feel for you, that is a hard one from everyone that I know who has wide feet. I have a narrow foot, flat with no arch collapsed, etc. so finding a decent fitting boot is always a journey. Have learned when you do find one that fits well buy 2 because the SOB's in charge will change it up by the time you need a second pair. Think you already know that though.

My steel toed Engineer boots were much like the jump boots. And made by the cheapest bidder. No doubt in my mind that the damage to my feet was caused in part by Uncle Sam's footwear. The specialist I work with in Sports Med at Mayo agrees. He would know they help with physical training of the Navy SEALs.

I got some inserts for planters fasciitis at MCRD about 15 years ago and, while they still work, I'd like to get another set. These things are a very durable plastic and, even though they sure don't look it, are very comfortable.

Assisted living is expensive and will drain the life's savings right out of you, some of the guys will soon be diabetic with the sudden urge for cheap snack cakes, good boots are hard to find, zero gravity chairs need to be bought when the sale starts and we talk alot.

I have had many sets of the plastic ones, the ones I most preferred though are leather custom made still have them and they are the most comfortable.

I haven't had the leather ones. I like these because they've lasted me this long. But the soft insoles contributed alot to my problem so I don't know if they'd work for me all that well.

They are hard leather but shaped exactly to your feet. You have to stand in these dry foam blocks they cast your foot and then build the leather to them.

I'll see if the doc will hook me up. One problem with having a small base facility is they farm alot of the stuff out so, if he sends me out in town I'll end up with a co-pay.

That might be good. And Speaking of dogs... Have any of you dog lovers read the book "The Art Of Racing In The Rain" by Garth Stein? If not... Put it way up on your Must read" list!
