I just had the Compustar 2-way Remote Start system installed. Company claims 3000 ft range so I decided to test it out. The remote is smaller than the factory remote and gives 2-way confirmation. I considered getting a system that used the factory remote but I wanted something that worked over a greater distance and showed confirmation. The factory remote only works about 150 ft away and that just isn't enough for me. So far I'm very happy. It did cost me $399 installed.

Here's my video of my range test.

I'm looking for the batmobile mod where I can hit the button and the truck comes and picks me up!

Yeah I really blame the person in the drivers seat. Then again when it comes to cars I dont trust many people with my life let alone a computer... yet.

I haven't seen a car driving itself yet or at least I didnt realize it if there was. It sounds neat but it just makes me think about skynet...

Does this have the killswitch so when you open the door it turns off? I do not want that feature!

wonder if their is anyway to turn that aspect off.

Seems to me that if you use remote start to start the truck, doors should remain locked. Using the factory key to unlike the doors should bypass the killswitch.

Nobody has a way to bypass this feature from Toyota. Only choice is to get over it or never get a remote start. I got over it.

That's a TOYOTA thing, so if you don't want that feature you're going to need to trade in on a different brand truck. ALL remote starts will shut off when you open the door on a third gen push-to-start Tacoma.

Sure there is: Trade your Taco for a Canyon. :D

Seriously, this has been discussed at length in other threads; you may not have seen it. The issue is with TOYOTA and it's not changing anytime soon.

You have the choice of the following:
#1: Get into a cold truck and push the Start button
#2: Get into a *warm* truck and push the Start button
#3: Trade in the Taco for a different brand, such as GM, but then you lose the Start button and other stuff.

My wife's old 2010 Ford Escape with factory remote start did the same thing. As well as her new 2016 Suburu Forester. So not just Toyota's

That or give up the fancy fob and extra features for an SR or SR5 with the standard keyed ignition. And don't go buy a lexus with push start either.

I didn't realize this was such a sensitive subject. I've never had a remote start, so I'm ignorant.
Not ignorant enough to buy a Canyon though :)

Nah, it's more that this is a question some of us have seen asked about five bazillian times in the past month... Didn't mean to blast ya, just figured I'd forestall the usual follow-up questions. :)
