Droop will be measured from ride height to full droop of my mock up from frame to axle. Oth with stock hanger and with shackle flip.

There was a post I read somewhere on here that inverted shackles hold more weight than flipped shackles, which is why heavy trucks run inverted shackles. That statement needs to be proved or disproved.

If by 'hold more weight' we mean: a given load compreses the spring less than an inverted shackle with the same weight (or it takes more weight to get the same amount of compression); I'm not sure, as that's a change in spring rate.

I suspect that a shackle flip provides lift, so the same weight, on the same truck is higher off the ground, even though the springs deflected the same amount.

Some trucks rear suspension are set up in such a way that a shackle flip could actually loxer the rear end. My Ford dually is an example.

You should also measure full stuff as well, to get a comparison of up travel and total travel.

Hmm. That will need some proving.

I'll draw it in the morning.

Physicist Wife thinks the spring rate will be different, I'm not so sure.

My thinking is that shackle angle will not change spring rate, due to the that that the :leverage: exerted on the spring eye by the angled shackle is negligible compared to the force required to move the spring eye relative to the rest of the spring.
Think of it this way. If shackle angle altered spring rate, then somewhere we would have seen a notation about modifying the calcs for spring rate as leaf springs are compressed, with obvious alterations due to shackle length. If an extremely long shackle were to be used, theoretically it could effect spring rate, but it would have to be extremely long in relation to the spring length, and the shackle movement would be negligible in that scenario.

For what it's worth, what is the single reason that a shackle is used in a leaf spring suspension?

Finally installed winch line. Had to go with synthetic line and a Hawse fairlead because the Roller fairlead would block my front receiver.

It seems that the wire gauge on the truck is 18 and the LED Pod is 20. Me thinks.
