You can use the 10" blades for a table saw too, so it's nice to have that option and interchangeability. Also it costs a lot less for a 10" blade.
I personally have a 12 " miter because it was on sale. Otherwise I would have gone with 10

There is actually a sliding mitre saw blade type , Freud makes them among others , I always run those in my sliding saws

Appreciate woodworking and carpentry. Anyhow, picked up a locust slab awhile back, Roughly 6ft long and 1 inch thick. Decided I would make a TV/Stereo stand out of it. In hindsight, I should have picked a better slab and different wood but the price was a steal so I'll work with what I got. Starting out sanding it down to get some of the planer groves out.
Ideally I would have liked to keep the bark but I learned quick that probably won't happen on this slab, it just wants to come off and some of it's been glued before. I'll have to figure out what to do with the edges where the bark is later, then stain, etc. For now here's what I got. More sanding for me.

Had something similar at a place I worked years ago. Great machine for saving time and labor. A photo eye failed a guy replaced it and was aiming it and when it "made" the program took over and clamped his legs snapped one femur luckily somebody hit the E-stop right away. Next step was the cut. LOCK-OUT TAG-OUT every time.

For my $$ a fixed/plunge combo is definitely the way to go. I bought a fixed base unit when I was under the illusion that I'd always be using it mounted in a table, and since then there's been many times where I've found myself wishing I had a plunge unit. As far as brands go, I can't offer much. I'm mostly of the opinion that there isn't a lot of difference quality-wise between a Ryobi, DeWalt, etc. at this point. I think it's more important to buy good quality bits than anything. :notsure:

My favorite is my Bosch Colt. Small and easy to use with reasonable power to handle most jobs with a 1/4" shank bits. 1 hp, variable speed, it now comes with a plunge base attachment. The fixed base is somewhat small. I also have a Porter-Cable I like a lot. My Craftsman is a POS.

Was (is?) the standard woodworkers router. You can get a variety of bases - fixed, plunge, d-handle - the motor fits all of them.

They have plenty of horsepower, and run fairly quietly (for a router).

    I have 2 - 1 in a plunge base, 1 in a d-handle. Wouldn't trade them for anything.

Now, to permanently mount on a table, a PC 7518 is the way to do.

The routers still seem to maintain the quality from the old days, before the company was bought and "cheapened".

I would stick with Bosch, Dewalt or Porter Cable. If you get a table or guide bushing plate, must of them will accept those 3 manufacturers. I've had trouble getting some stuff for my Skil and old Craftsman.

You can't go wrong with that model Dewalt though. I'd buy it.

LOL, I had a guy offer to pay me to paint his wives hutch. I turned him down and told him it wasn't meant to be painted. I can't cover up that beautiful wood.
