Radiator Help: Leak?

    I only topped off the reservoir and only half an inch or so got sucked back into the rad. I'm not going to stress unless it continues to drop. I checked it again this morning and the reservoir was the same as last night. (15 mile drive)

    its a Toyota truck and that's all the modifications needed
    your good to go, if you read the Toyota FSM about coolant change they just drain the radiator and supposedly drain the engine block then just refill with coolant, they probably didn't purge it with the heater on full blast to let the coolant flow into the entire system properly. knowing those guys they just refilled it get it out the door, once you starting using the heater it used up the available coolant in the resovoir and the low level is a result of it filling the void. my trucks resovoir was a few inchs low when I got so I filled it with distilledwater to bring the level up to normal as long as your not adding quarts of coolant everything should be fine

    Okay, so I got off early today and checked the level once I pulled in the garage. I realize the engine is warm, but the distilled water has mixed with the reservoir. Not to mention, the level has risen past the tape. (Level was at the bottom of the tape mark) I suppose this is a good sign considering the solution has mixed and such? I'm going to pull the skid too just to make sure the water pump isn't leaking. I'll snap a picture to show on here while I'm at it.

    Second photo makes it look dirty, but it's a reddish/pink color much like that of the coolant

    Okay, so I pulled the skid. I didn't see any pink residue or anything abnormal with the water pump. I found a slight oil leak though which seems to be coming from the bolt pictured. Does anyone know anything about this? The coolant level dropped below the tape mark also. It's fully cooled now, so that's probably normal for it to go down a bit.     See that white on the rear lip of the crank pulley. Pull some off and see if it is pink. You can even taste it and see if it is sweet.

    But I live in a non corrosive state, and i dont see that on pulleys normally, so I guess that could be corrosion and not dried fluid.

    And that is likely a timing cover leak or a ps leak. Check the area around the access plate on the cover. Typically right above it where it meets the head.

    And check you ps fluid level.

    Wipe it all down and drive it for a week and see if the pump gets wet.

    What year is this truck?

    He has a 2007. It may be nothing, but that black power on your fan bolts was what mine looked like and I noticed my fan clutch was free wheeling. After replacing my fan clutch, I noticed better MPG and cooling, because the fan was engaging at the proper temperature.

    How exactly do you tell if the fan clutch is free wheeling? This is all new to me

    Just curious, does the inside of your fan blade (toward the motor) have any black residue (same color as on the bolts)?

    If this is what you're referring to, then there is a little bit. That could be sand/dust from off-roading though.

    The reason I ask that is because I had black streaks running the length of the inside fan blades. What was causing it was the oil inside the fan clutch leaking out and if enough leaks out, your fan clutch won't operate properly (free wheeling), with this in turn causing lower MPG and higher coolant temperature.

    Now that I look at it my power steering is extremely low. I'm beginning to think my ps pump maybe cracked/leaking. I'll have to wipe it down this weekend, but is the pump difficult to replace @Pickeledpigsfeet

    I can't seem to find any info on how to replace the Tacoma PS pump. Does anyone have a write up?
