After washing my 6-month old Tacoma the other night. I noticed at least 5-6 paint chips on the hood. They are about BB-size or smaller and I assume they are rock chips, but it seems like a lot of rock chips to pick up in 6 months. They are also all very similar in size, which seems a little odd. In addition, I have 2 or 3 on the very front edge/lip of the hood. It seems like quite a coincidence that I'd have numerous rock chips along this very thin strip of the hood. Almost makes me wonder if there's some faulty paintwork along the edge of the hood as I doubt multiple rocks are hitting the hood here. However, it could just be actual rock chips. I do live in Colorado and it's prime territory for rock chips, but I just don't recall getting this many on my last car. Extrapolating over 10 years, I'd have like 120 rock chips on my hood if this keeps up!

Anyway, just wondering what the best way to fix this is. I have an MGM Tacoma. I thought I recall seeing someone post a link to a "touch-up" paint pen for MGM Toyotas. Does anyone have the link? Is that a good way to fix this or would it be better to let the dealer do it? Although if they use the same technique it might be easier to just do it myself. Wondering how much a dealer/body shop fix might cost as well.

Anyway, any advice would be much appreciated. I posted a pic to show the chip on the edge of the hood. There's at least 2 chips along the edge of the hood. Seems odd I'd get 2 rock strikes in this location.

I wouldn't bother touching those up just yet. You'll get a lot more where those came from.

If you really must, I've found that Dupli-Color BTY1619 Magnetic Gray Metallic is an amazingly good match for MGM. The one spot I touched up looks factory - can't even tell.

This is completely normal and the edge of the hood is where they would show up first as any flying rock would hit the flat area the hardest.
You're trying to extrapolate a false data set. For all you know, you got them all the same time following behind a truck hauling rock or something similar.

Check out Dr. Colorchip, that stuff worked wonders on both my BMW's

And it is idiot proof to use, not like regular touch up paint.

There will be more where that came from. If that's the worse that ever happens, you'd be alright. I'd leave them alone. I wouldn't use any touch up paint unless you used a pen that perfectly matches your color. I say leave it alone and continue enjoying the truck.

Great product! I had the same color on my 14 Camry I traded in. Dr. Color chip made amy chip dissappear. Had a deep scratch down to primer. Ex wife brother said It would need a paint job.. BS. Couple coats and the dr. Color chip system, you couldn't tell it was there. Look into it!
