The design of the 3.0 diesel manufactured by the Fiat owned company is almost identical to the 3.0 of the VW owned company. Saw this coming a long time ago.

VW largest auto company in the world based on unit sales! Probably a good time to purchase stock. They got out of their jam in world record time.

    Fiat..... not so much.

I'm actually surprised they found the issue... Its a pretty slick work around if you ask me. Like I said surprised someone "found" it.. Likely a disgruntled VW employee my bet.
VW is all over this ..... they are going to ASSume guilt plea out pay a fine, that will keep employees out of the fray.... it's already a done deal. $2.3 billion to "settle" with the US government.

$2.3 billion... hey that's a lot of health care .... Just sayin...problem solved??

    Edit - $4.3 billion settlement.

    Lawyers and banks.

Works for my sister though. Husband left her and the kids for another woman. She got stuck with debt, the VW's $500/month payment, house, etc. Now she gets to,sell the car back to VW and a friend is hooking her up with a nice Civic so she can have reliable transportation, good fuel economy, and ditch the car payment that's strapping her and the kids financially.

The 3.0 was in the generic/spin-off companies of the Iveco line. Fiat Industrial, CNH Industrial, Fiat Auto Group, whatever they are called anymore, is one of the largest companies in the World..Maserati, Ferrari, Alpha Romeo, Dodge/Chrysler, CaseIH, New Holland, Iveco, Steyer. Be interesting to see where this goes? This is way larger than VW and Iveco is huge in the diesel industry worldwide. And for those who say they have never heard of Iveco, watch old 70-80's boxing matches, Iveco sponsored the crap out of the old boxing on TV, which is funny considering their lack of presence in the U.S. except for industrial.

I traded my 2012 TDi in on my truck 6 days after the VW scandal broke, did great on the trade in. Still got a check from VW for $2800 last month.

Vw is being forced to pay owners damages. My neighbor has a mint 2014 TDI wagon that vw would have paid $5000 directly if they got the programming done for free. They traded to a suburu instead and got 28k in trade.

Seems like there is a decent number of diesel vehicles in the US market . . .

    http://www.dieselforum.org/diesel-drivers/clean-diesel-vehicles-available-in-the-u-s

I just don't think the consumer interest is there, especially when you have gas engines with very minimal required maintenance that go 200,000 miles or more (not that the general public really keeps vehicles that long anyway).

I have a 2014 VW TDI Passat SEL that VW is buying back on the 25th. Dont get me wrong I love the car and the MPG were amazing! I'm talking 40 MPG average and when my wife drove it she got closer to 45. We both agreed though that we would sell the car back because the money they are giving us was going to be more of a profit than what we put down. We're taking the money and refinancing my wife's new car and taking some to put towards the house.

Was thinking about getting a 2018 F150 Diesel but I'm just waiting for the EPA to say "No its broke and cheating too"

Yeah I think they called it Eligible Seller Restitution. Basically the assumption is that because of the scandal the car decreased in value, so you sold it/traded it you took a loss vs what it would have been pre-scandal. I was just fortunate in that I acted so quickly that I didn't feel the affect of the scandal when I did my trade in. I think I may have even worked out the terms of the deal with Toyota before the scandal broke and they honored the deal.
