Suspension and trailer tongue weight

    I have a 2010 AC and it's the base model pretty much no prerunner package for suspension lift. The problem i run into is two things ground clearance and trailer tongue weight. I was wanting to know if any of you know how i can get more clearance and be able to have heavier tongue weights hooked up. I've got to do this on a fairly small budget at that. Suggestions?

    The only way to gain ground clearance with standard axles is bigger tires. You can step up a bit on the stock suspension but to get a real difference is going to at least require a lift.

    Taco is a light duty truck. To exceed what it can do...
    Buy a bigger truck.

    Install an add-a-leaf in the rear spring pack. Fairly simple procedure.

    these helped me immensely but will provide no additional "clearance" just less sag when loaded.

    Firestone airbags or Timbrens. The Timbrens won't help with the sag though. They only help when bottoming out. Airbags are what you need or a bigger truck which was already suggested.

    2005 Tan Tacoma Base 5 LUG: Beaten , abused and still running strong.
    Fat Bobs 2.75 lift and level with short AAL, 16x8 Level 8 Guardian Wheels, 245/75R16 Toyo Open Country ATII, custom trans shift kit(home made), Trans temp. and Vac gauge, URD fuel pump upgrade(going back to stock soon).
    Yes to both of your questions. The Powertrain and drive train can handle the load of a prerunner.

    To increase ground clearance add a lift and use a short add-a-leaf (AAL). Typically the long AAL will ride smoother but at a small sacrifice to payload (comparison based on both leafs being equal thickness). I lifted my 5 lug for two reasons. The first is I wanted to run more standardized truck tire sizes. The second was the fact my factory leafs could not take the payload that Toyota speced the truck for. I had a full load of logs in the bed at the payload stated in the owners manual and was nearly on top of the bump stops. After the lift with the short AAL and the larger wheels and tires I can now load the truck to its full payload without issues.

    Just an FYI. I am running an older Fat Bob's lift and the rear shocks for a prerunner. The prerunner shocks have a different valving for a slightly stiffer spring rate than the 5 lug and also have longer travel for the added lift.

    Thanks for the information unfortunately upgrading to a larger truck would be nice i would love a crew cab tundra but seeing i still owe on this one not well advised at this time. as far as overloading the capacity i've hooked a rough estimate of 2200 pounds worth of boat water and fish behind it and pulled it with no problem down the interstate at 75mph that's why i love these trucks they will pull anything within reason that is. i think i will end up just having to put a suspension kit on and up the tire size again. thanks again
