Just sounding off. '16 DCSB TRD Offroad here! I have more problems getting the truck into the gates than I did in my last car (GTI)...but...its a Truck, so... just do the 'feather the clutch a bit' trick and off I go.

I am generally pleased with this transmission, but again, I learned how to drive stick in an '89 F-150 that had the original tranny and 300k miles

At the risk of sounding like a total noob... how hard is it to switch to this fluid? My truck shifts fine but I'd like any improvement available, the clutch IS awful squishy on some colder mornings (I live in MA, no garage :angrygirl:). I think the last fluid I changed myself was the oil in my 89 Mustang back in high school, admittedly a far more simply constructed vehicle with a big ass engine bay to work in/under. This something I could do myself? Thanks in advance for any advice!

A fluid change will have no affect on your clutch. It is, however, pretty easy from what I can see. Just purchase the fluid and a couple sealing washers for the plugs. Lower plug on the transmission drains. Replace that plug and open the upper plug. Fill until it drips out and replace the plug with new gasket.

While your statement is technically correct, I think the majority of people are talking about fluid affecting the transmission, which it will. I swapped to Redline MT90 and immediately noticed gear changes smoothed out and trans was a bit quieter.

Also your walkthrough is incorrect, you want to crack or just plain pull off the upper plug first to allowed the fluid to drain from the drain plug.

I think I did... let me try it again and be more observant.

Not sure either. I need to take it into dealer since my steering wheel is cocked to the left after some 4x4ing. I'll ask the techs.

He specifically discussed the performance of his clutch. I made an assumption that is what he was wanting to improve. Yeah, opening the upper plug will help drain faster. Transmission should be vented somewhere already though.

Okay, they had asked me to send mine as well, but I'll hold off if you're going to be the one to break the seal.

Let me know if you can't follow through on it. I would very much like a new boot..

The engine has a fuel cut off quirk that it does between shifts if rev it out high. Watch the YouTube review of the 16 Tacoma by Savagegeese. He talks a little about it. That's why you notice odd surging sometimes when you shift and then it waits a second for the fuel to come back and then it has power. I notice it in mine all the time. I'm not sure what causes it (maybe the atkins-otto), but it's just how the engine behaves.

I also notice the RPMs go to 1,200 when the truck is idle with my foot on the brake. Many people have mentioned that here. Again, could be the engine cycling between modes, but I only really notice it when the truck is cold so might just be what it does while it's warming up.

Neither of these appear to be issues at all. Just quirks of the truck. They don't bother me one bit, but I do notice them.

Looks kinda funky, as far as the feel might go and maybe cold or hot at times. I have the fj ball and although kinda big its always comfortable and have never had it be to hot(to hot to tuch).

    For automatic it looks good.

Mine came with a TRD wrapped 6 speed whatever in the plethure just wore out
