That's a good point. I've had a few drops after a car wash but nothing in a heavy snowstorm (twice).

Yes mine is leaking. Toyota put a new seal on and it still leaked. Then they put a whole new sunroof in and it still leaks. Now it leaks in the rain when before it use to only leak in the touch less car wash. This sucks I have a 2006 Malibu and it doesn't leak at all. Hard to believe my Malibu has a better sunroof then my 2016 Tacoma. They quit fixing it this past time and told me I had to escalate it to Toyota and I had to call the 800 number because Toyota told them it was an acceptable amount of water entering the vehicle.

Nope after the main tech came up from Ohio he said it was an acceptable amount of water and that it didn't leak as bad as the new 2016 on the lot. Cracks me up other people say there's does not leak but don't do the test that I have done. Stick for paper towels and all four corners of the sunroof go through a power wash and more than likely they will get water on the paper towels. And in my situation One of the four paper towels is so wet I can ring it out. But nobody on this form goes and does it. I know a higher power wash is an extreme situation but I get the same results even when it rains. I go in for my 10,000 mile service and I'm gonna tell him the same thing hopefully something will get done I wish they would just buy this piece of s**t back

So FYI, the "seal" around the sunroof glass is mostly a dust and light water seal. When the water comes down much heavier, there are chances the water will get past the seal around the glass. The vehicle body incurs a lot of flex and motion, so there no way it can provide a 100% watertight seal. That's what the sunroof drip pan is for, just above the headliner. Attached to that are 4 drains that need to stay clear and helps evacuate moisture down drain tubes. So if you put the paper towels there, it will soak. It's exactly what the Toyota techs found and say your situation is within acceptable tolerances. As long as you're not getting water on the headliner or your body, you should be fine. We're not supposed to know that the water actually seeps past the seal and down the drip pan, but that is exactly how it works.

When there's heavy fog here in LA and enough moisture condenses on the exterior roof panel, I'll hear the water trickling down the drain tubes and that just tells me its working. Recent regular rain in Southern California had me alarmed at first as it was really heavy at times and I'd hear the draining loud and clear. It reminds me of thin walls and drainage sounds often heard in cheap apartment buildings.

I'm not trying to downplay your situation or concerns, but if it's NOT actually dripping to the point where your headliner or interior parts start getting soaked, I'd say it's normal. I've wrenched at dealerships, I remember these complaints all too often. There have been a few threads about water leakage here from the roof, but they show soaked headliners and seats. Not sure exactly what your situation is, but from reading your two posts in here, it doesn't seem like you have this problem. Mine also DOES NOT leak into the interior, but I do get wet spots around the seal. Just have the dealer check to make sure the drain tubes are free and attached to the drip pan and the glass roof panel and mechanism is aligned properly.

Edit: I just remembered a trick we used to use! Depending the type of seal you have, but it's worth a try. I forgot what chemical we used, but it has to be petrol based. You're trying to get the rubber to "swell" a little bit and expand the sealing ability. Then we'd apply this Silicone based grease that we used when we replaced window run channels and similar seals, to help lubricate and protect the rubber afterwards. It needs to stay supple. While we shouldn't be doing this to a new vehicle, it might be worth a shot. I remember that tube was manufactured by Shin-etsu, a Japanese company. We had to use that stuff religiously and the dealers are supposed to lube those seals when brought in for service, most techs don't bother.

Thanks for the reply but that still seems weird for that much water. As I said before my 06 Malibu doesn't get wet when I put paper towels in there. Now what I don't get is if it was meant to get water in there then I would expect consistency. What I mean is I would expect all four paper towels to be the same dampness but it's not. Other three are damp and the other is sopping wet. Plus to top it off it leaked less before they adjusted and replaced it. Before I took it in only Two were dry and the other two were damp. So when I complained to Atleast get it back to where it was before they worked on it. They said it was an acceptable amount of water coming in. So if what you say is true then why even try to attempt it in the first place.

Water can go past the glass but should go right out the drains, none should enter the interior. I can put paper towels in all 4 corners on my 25 year old Mustang and there will not be a drop of water.

This is the most important thing with sunroofs; you've GOT to check the drains periodically as normal maintenance. If one of them is stopping up, get it cleared out. Weed whacker line can serve the purpose.

Don't bring it through the drive through wash. Those things are a paint killer.
