Would it cost just $300 + tax for a Tacoma? I went to best buy last winter looking for a remote starter. A basic kit was around 200, but when they added all the other adapters and stuff I was like 350-400 and walking away.

that's how i read it, all installation and everything. There is a note that some vehicles may need adapters/parts totaling $10-50. I went ahead and pulled the trigger on two, one for my truck and one for my wife's audi. Came out to $311 each after tax, and they emailed me codes to schedule the free installations.

I would say i will let you know how installation goes, but the deal is today only.

I went and did a bunch more research and decided to pass. Multiple people complaining on best buys website about unmentioned but cost extra parts + installation $. One person mentioned a $99 adapter plus $30 fee to install that adapter. None of that mentioned till they came to pick up the vehicle.
Also it looks like there is a monthly fee to use the app on your phone. The system does not work without using the app...

I hope it works for you. Before letting them touch the vehicle ask them if they need to add any parts fees. I'd assume you can still return if they add anything crazy

As someone who is doing this (though different shop and system) the Toyotas require more parts than the standard install. You need additional starter relays, and if you use the remote start and the vehicle is running, fob controls will be disabled per the factory setup meaning you cannot unlock the doors, so additional modifications are required that are not included in the base price.

They are not trying to rip you off, but every vehicle is different depending on make and age, and the newer Toyotas require more work than many. What is worrisome is when you go to a vendor that doesn't know all this in advance.

I had a code alarm remote start installed for $300 and it didn't require anything extra. I got the 2500ft range with a 2-way remote.
I'm friends with the installer and watched him put it in (took him 1 hour) with nothing extra.

I am going to do the wife's Q5 first and see how it goes... I still haven't received the other one in the mail (that I was going to put in the tacoma) so i may send that one back. She is the one who really wanted it anyhow.

Please share any and all details after install. I may go for 1 in the future.
Also while there, ask if there will be any extra charge for the taco.

So they get you on the backend too, ouch

    This is kinda shitty:
Your Geek Squad Autotech will provide an estimate prior to performing work that requires an additional charge (including nonstandard installation) and any additional parts. Any additional charges will be assessed after the installation is complete.

In other words: yeah we can bend you over without even asking you.

It's one thing if all of the fees are listed and I know going in that I will need a certain piece that costs $X. But to not tell you....Also in the description I saw no mention of a monthly fee. But in the customer reviews of it on best buys website, there were lots of pissed off people who were never told they had to pay to use the app.

Reviews are mostly pissed off people, to be fair, but they could all be right. Due to our schedules the wife's install is scheduled for Feb. 4th so i will report back once its done.

You didn't find a local car audio shop that was cheaper?

installation came with the item as a bundle for $300. I had only done a little looking before, but was finding $250 for system plus a couple hundred for installation elsewhere. Admittedly it was a bit of an impulse buy on a one day clearance deal, and i didn't do much homework.

I am honestly hoping that I am entirely wrong and you get a great deal on this. I am not a person who hopes bad for others.
