How much were they going to charge?

Next question - anyone know a shop around the SLC area to get 4.88 gears installed?

Its not right in salt lake but if you go down to Orem, Six States does an awesome job. They have tons of experience with toyota differentials.

Not sure. I was just referred to Kevin down in Orem by Cruiser Outfitters and he was super good to work with. Reasonable price, good communication, and no issues with the work.

How about lifts? Do I dare ask who does a decent job? I've heard good things about Jack-It in West Valley.

Yourself...you just need some decent hand tools and a floor jack/stands to accomplish the job. Everything else can be "rented" from Oreily's or Autozone.

Man, for as much as I'd love to believe I could do it myself, I have no faith in that. :) I'd probably put a UCA on the tailgate and think that was supposed to be where it went.

Try State Steet Automotive. Someone that Cruiser Outfitters recommended to me and I tried them once and they seemed quite knowledgeable, I'll use them again. Or you can purchase from Cruiser Outfitters and they can install items purchased from them.

+1 for State Automotive. They're great all around, and especially with Toyota trucks.
I've sent a lot of people there and I'll be there tomorrow to get the trans on my wife's car looked at.

I agree with @08TRDOFFROAD ... just do it yourself. It saves you big money and gives you the chance to "get to know" your truck suspension if anything goes wrong down the road. It's really not that hard and you don't need a garage full of tools. Just a positive attitude. Check some You Tube videos and ask questions. You can do it and then you can tell others with pride!

Then have someone who has done it before lend a hand. It really isn't bad... I had zero wrenching experience when I lifted my truck and replaced the UCA's. There are great tutorials and step by steps all over the internet now!

I am sure someone on here locally would be willing to give up a Saturday afternoon to help for some pizza and beer...

The Salt Lake Six States is the only place I trust to touch my gears. They have set up probably 4 sets for me, now? Eric knows his stuff.

wondering if anyone in the SLC area has an aftermarket cat back exhaust. I could come check out and hear in person? It's so hard to hear them on youtube videos. I live in Sugarhouse.
