Coming out of cruise control because of bumps

This truck has always had a VERY touchy brake pedal. The slightest tap will shut off cruise control, but I've gotten used to it. Now I'm noticing it's coming out of cruise when I hit decent sized bumps on the interstate. I was thinking maybe it was vacuum line related or something, but as I'm typing this I also remember a couple weeks ago my neighbor called and said my tail lights were on. I came out and it was the brake lights, and just on a hunch I pulled up on the brake pedal and the lights went out. I pushed and released it a few times and it didn't happen again. It didn't really have any noticeable slop in it though, and it hasn't happened again since. I'm suspecting now the bumps are causing the pedal to move.

Is there a spring in there somewhere I might need to adjust/replace?

Just went outside to find it, could be that your spring needs replacing.

It's kind of an awkward angle but I'm sure you can get it on yourself with a screw driver.
The picture is my spring with no pressure on the brake pedal. Maybe you can compare yours?

Oooh..thank you. Didn't mean to make anyone go inspect their pedal..lol. I'll look. Mine's gotta be worn down, but it's always been so touchy anyway. It infuriates my wife on the rare occasion she has to drive it to work. :) Maybe that isn't normal either though? The pedal..not the wife.

More likely is that the brake pedal switch needs adjustment.

Try putting a zip tie loosely on the spring to reduce the amount of stretch. Then check it again and see if it returns all the way back.
(Do not drive it like this just try it in park)

Once you get the brake pedal/cruise adjusted, DO NOT attempt to adjust the wife. This will result in unanticipated heavy wear and tear and can likely void your warranty.

I guess I'll check the pedal for slop or at least some initial movement before brake pressure is applied, then try your suggestion to see if it makes a difference. It's only let the lights stay on that one time though, which is kind of annoying.

Brake switch adjustment. As mentioned earlier.

I agree. This is most likely. If this does not fix the issue it might me another connection problem with another circuit??? For Example. I beleive that the CC will not engage if the Control module sees a light out in your brake circuit (All three). So just a thought. I'd also check to see if the CM generated any error code - a stretch - but easy to check ....
