Greasable is better if you actually grease them. Nongreasable lasted 22 years on my 94 Ranger and were just starting to get tight and spalled/clicky.

 

I've got a 2002 cavalier with 255k on it with greaseable ball joints, 15 years and tubes of mobil1 grease later , they are still doing good, of course I grease them every 5k miles though, so I would expect them to last a while

 

I would prefer greasable ones myself.

 

I must be blind. I can't find any zerks. 2017 December build.

 

Do you have a prerunner or 4x4?

 

2017 SR AC 4x4 MT, purchased at end of august has zerks on front shaft, sealed on rear shaft. I greased the fronts and they only took a couple pumps, looked like they had already been done too. There was no heat shield obstructing either of them.

 

Hi everyone, so just greased the U-Joints on my '16 4X4 OR last night at 1312 miles. 4/5 were bone dry (you could hear air escaping and see the black residue come out). But the first zerk looked slightly greased already.

*Help, I still haven't greased the first zerk. I am having a hard time fitting the grease head/coupler onto the zerk itself due to the shaft having a tight space. So gave up cause it was really late last night.

*Any advice? Do I need a smaller diameter grease head/coupler? Mines the standard coupler that come with all grease guns.

 

Lock and lube coupler, expensive, but it will work. Or just wait until its light out and take your time.....my u joints were the same exact way, took about 15-18 pumps each to get grease flowing out of all 4. So yeah, they were bone dry, just as I figured they would be.

I used :

• Mobilgrease XHP™ 222 blue.... only because my place of employment had a real good price on it........free.

Got it. Just wanted to make sure since I didn't know that PreRunners' weren't greasable when I looked under the truck and was having a twilight zone moment when I couldn't find the zerks I thought should be there lol.

 

Grease at every oil change . If you dont grease during your oil changes , sooner or later you will notice a nasty vibration or squeaking and be replacing seized universal joints
Greasing your universal joints is cheap insurance
Replacing universal joints for lack of greasing is expensive

 

Found them, exactly where you said they were front only.....15 -17 pumps to get grease flowing.....must of been bone dry, as I expected.
