Owners of 2015 and older models with the 2.7L 2TR-FE engines that specify oil change intervals of 5,000 miles or 6 months under schedule B of the Warranty and Maintenance guide and came with ToyotaCare:

What has been your experience obtaining free oil changes from your dealer at the 6 month intervals?

Have you been advised that the use of synthetic oil superscedes this recommendation?

Have you actually been refused an oil change when requested under ToyotaCare?

Have you received any service bulletins or written communications from Toyota concerning the oil change interval?

Lastly, what experience does anyone have concerning warranty claims related to possible lubrication failure and requests for service records to process the claim.

I'd appreciate responses specific to these questions. General opinion regarding oil, filters, etc, is not sought.

As for oil change interval, I called the Toyota customer help line, or whatever its called, and asked about oil change intervals and warranty. They specifically said that in order to not void the warranty you must change the oil at the recommended interval regardless of what type of oil is used. So to be safe I switched to full synthetic and changed oil at 5000k miles. Mines the V6.

On the maintenance guide it calls for the 2.7 to use full synthetic.

My 2012 can with Synthetic and the "free" Customer Care changes for 24 Months. I never hit the mileage, but the dealer changed the oil every 6 months.

If the dealer balks then show them the schedule in the manual or have them call Toyota.
