I see threads on this quite often. Here's my $0.02. If you are worried that the stock recovery point are inadequate because you can't find a rating for it or because a bunch of people from TW said you shouldn't use it, then buy an aftermarket recovery point. They are fairly cheap and peace of mind is priceless.

However, if you don't care about any of that listed above, and instead care only about what actually is, then consider this as an option.

I filed out a minimal amount of the loop to accept a 5/8 shackle. I don't know how much force would have to be applied to the hook to cause it to fail. What I do know is that it is more force than is created by recovering my truck. I have used it several (4 that I can think of) times without incident. Good luck with whatever you decide. I don't think there is a wrong option here.

Your suggestion in another thread was my inspiration for doing the same to my bracket, I tried to track your post down to give you credit, lol.. I did the same thing and made a 3/4 shacke fit. Glad you popped up here so I could thank you, thanks!

Ha ha. No problem, man. When it works, it works. Obligatory recovery pic. (Pic doesn't really show it but that hill is steep as....)

That looks like a 3/4" shackle.
Had to file out my hook to accept my 3/4" shackle, but it's still getting hung up on the head of the bolt to the passenger side. Needs some more engineering.

By the way, does anyone know what this part is on the side of the bumper? It slides in and out of the frame when you remove that fastener. Didn't have enough time to check it out better.
