What are your guys' thoughts? Thinking of driving to check it out and see if I can negotiate it down. Talked to the owner on the phone and really knew his stuff which is a bit intimidating since I am a newbie at this.

Looks pretty sweet, but Jeebus! 12K?!? We all love our Tacos here, but 170K miles/16 years ain't no spring chicken. And I didn't see anywhere in the listing that it was solid gold... KBB.com says an "excellent" 4wd limited DC (private party, not dealer) is worth $8,743. If that was from a dealer, the range would be $8,4-$11,2. Whatever you do, don't buy it without an actual mechanic putting it on the hoist for 30 minutes.

Expect him to neg you on the kbb. It's not as accurate as you'd want it to be around here, but it gets you into a negotiating ballpark. If he figures out that you really really really want the truck, you're screwed from a negotiating perspective.

Forgot to say, get the carfax... they aren't perfect, but sometimes they'll highlight accidents. (You can ask for the vin before you haul ass up there.)

KBB isnt vey reliable for Tacomas. They hold their value so much, and a DC 4x4 is a unicorn these days

I would say they are both priced fair.. I'm sure both guys can negotiate. I would definitely have a mechanic look at the 12k D.C. As he didn't Metin any other important maintanence. Timing belt water pump etc.

I posted my tacoma up a while back for 10k I'm at 194k got a ton of hits but no one serious so ended up keeping it.

12k is a bit much for that truck you'll be hitting the timing belt replacement soon. Any 1st gen 4x4 will be priced well above kbb.

Just for reference I picked up my 2000 xtra cab 5spd 4x4 with 100k in Santa Cruz for 10k and it needed the timing belt.

Anyone have a parts headlight they would sell me a part from? It's the nut that the adjustment screw screws into. One of mine is broken causing me issues with my headlight shaking and leaking.

I don't have any but I was looking for headlights recently on eBay and there are at least two Sac area parts sellers that may have some cheap headlights that are cracked or broken tabs maybe you can salvage from those.
Rainbow parts is one of them.
