So I got a full refund for this engine and now I'm planning on driving out to the Bay Area and picking an engine myself from a jdm retailer.

Got the new engine in last week. Plan on bolting it in today. The oil pickup from the old motor sucked up slushy watery oil, can I clean it and reuse it or should I go get a new one

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
As long as it isn't damaged, you should be able to clean it and re-use it.

Looks like a connecting rod broke and made that hole.

I posted before seeing the pictures of the broken rod. I'm impressed that engine has a windage tray (that sheet metal thing below the crankshaft that keeps oil in the pan from splashing up into the crank).

IMG_0546.jpg Got it started and it smokes quite a bit but runs fairly well at higher rpms but at lower it's pretty rough. I drove it around the block to see why codes would pop up and I got these

I got it all buttoned up and running great on Thursday. If anyone is gonna buy a JDM engine don't get it through jdm engine depot. I had a much better experience through jdm engine zone. The guy I dealt with on the phone there was much more pleasant, and the engine they sent me looked great inside. It's running great now that I figured out which sensor I missed. Also if anyone has any questions about an engine swap feel free to message me while it's all still fresh lol.

Yeah that really sucked. I had no experience with JDM engines until that one so it was surprising to me when I popped it open.

My profile pic is just up the road from this...

We just got a 3rd gen 3.4l for my girlfriend as well.

Out of curiosity how long did the swap take you would you say? (including the time to pull the first engine) And whats your prior experience? I have been working with cars/ motorcycles quite a while now but have never had to do a swap in a car, I have always kind of wondered how long it would take.

I've been working on cars/trucks/jeeps since I was 16. I'm now 23 so about 7 years experience. Most of the stuff I do is suspension related. I've done a couple tranny swaps, swapped one other engine (jeep 4.0), rebuilt the top end of another jeep engine (5.2), etc. I think pulling the blown engine from the runner took a combined 6-7 hours. This was taking my time, tearing down the intake, removing accessories etc. installing the good JDM engine took a total of about 12 hours. That includes swapping over all the parts I needed to, any prep work, and all diagnostic troubles when I forgot to plug in the knock sensors.

prob worse than that...rod or crank. if it compressed while full of water valves sealed it and weakest point is the rods and crank. Id be interested to take it apart just to see what happened to it.
