2wd to 4wd Conversion

Anybody know if upper & lower control arms (OEM) are the same in Pre-Runners VS 4x4?

Also, the knuckle that connects the upper & lower? Is that the same or different between the two?

I'm needing new control arms on my 2wd, but figured I'd slowly start my conversion project, starting with the arms

 

Aftermarket upper and lower control arms aren't 4x4/prerunner specific, so I would assume factory ones aren't either.

 

They are the same. Only the hub/bearing assembly is different.

 

I thought the spindle was different

 

Doesn't appear to be. The 4wd hub bolts up and works great.

yes the upper and lower UCAs are the same and the same for the spindles

How much money did they charge for the conversion? I'm still on the fence of whether it's worth it to convert or just wait & buy new as a 4x4, but if I can do this for $5,000 or less, then it would make finiancial sense, opposed to spending $45,000 on a new one I'll be afraid to scratch.

Why don't you sell your current truck and buy a used 4x4 of the same model? Or see if someone would be willing to trade with some extra cash.

 

Because I searched 9.5 years for a Double Cab Longbed in Speedway blue TRD. The rarest base color they made. Only 3 people within a 15 mile range own the same configuration & 1/3 are 4x4, but he's not willing to sell

 

well i did the work myself sense im a Mechanic but in parts im at $1,500

 

Would I need a new transmission or just a transfer case?

 

you'll need a 4wd trans and a FJ tcase

 

How'd you go about finding the parts?
