Hella Lights Wiring Question

    I purchased a Hella 500 Series light kit, and I'm wiring it up this weekend. I would like to wire a switch in the dash, so I can flip them on independent of the headlights/high-beams. I also know I will eventually forget to flip them off.

    My question is, where is a good place to splice into the "accessory" wiring? That way, as long as I have removed the ignition key, it won't drain the battery. But I can still leave the key in the "accessory" position and listen to the radio with lights on.

    Basically, where should I splice for the "accessory" position on the ignition?

    Cigarette lighter is easily accessible. Just splice positive in for switch to it.

    You would be better off using a relay. That way you don't draw too much current from the lighter and smoke a fuse or wiring.

    The kits use a relay.

    Just hook your positive wire to the main fuse box terminal. When the key is out, all electronics to the fuse box turn off. Disconnect the battery before attaching wiring to that terminal.

    Or you can find a fuse in the interior fuse panel aswell. Find on that has 12v when you do and dont want it and get a fuse tap to draw the power. No splicing and not being at all invasive to existing wiring...

    Not a fan of that tap. I think they are called add a fuse or piggyback fuse.

    I personally wouldn't run a piggyback fuse for lights like that. If they were led maybe. But I just wouldn't do it..

    The power for the lights still runs through the relay. It's just the trigger "switch" that is receiving power from the fuse piggyback. I'll still run a small fuse before the switch though.

    This diagram may help explain what I'm trying to accomplish. The source for "Hi Lo Ign" is the question I am asking in the OP.

    Yeah that add a fuse is much better than the first one you posted...

    should think about ordering a 55watt h3 hid kit for those hellas. or the 100watt halogens bulb upgrade atleast. you may be disappointed with them as is.

    Ok, thanks for the advice. I just want to get them wired up first. Plus I have an OME 3" lift, BFG 33s, and new headlights/corner lights to install this weekend. Busy, busy!

    Man i bet you're gunna be blown away with the light output of just ditching the old yellow fogged up oem headlights!! This is ofcourse if you didn't opt fur a set of some of the ridiculously cheap aftermarket options out on the market these days! Some of em sure look cool though and would seemingly be better than your current ones, this however is not the case!! Gosh some really fuckin suck! Like to the point you'll realize how good the fogged up stockers still worked with only 65% of the light getting past the lenses!
