I went out to my truck at lunch today and heard a buzzing sound under my tacoma bed. the truck has 300 miles on it and the only thing I have been able to find is that it may be an evap pressure check, but is this normal when sitting after 5 hours? It sounded like the fuel pump or something. I started it and shut it off and it went away. Any info? Thanks.

Yes it is normal. The test for the EVAP system does not occur for about 5 hours once the truck is turned off and it happens under the truck around the bed area.

Thanks tacobell007. I figured that it was and I am trying to get used to all the new electrical sounds that this thing makes. Between electric brake system...and all the emissions stuff this thing sounds like a swarm of bees at times. All in all really like the truck so far.

No problem. I've heard my dad's 05 do it multiple times while it has been in the drive way. Glad you're liking your new truck so far

Glad I found this thread! Just noticed the same thing under my 13 tonight. I searched my garage like there was a bomb waiting for me LOL.

Hollis, where in Michigan are you?? We try to get some meets going from time to time. Light off-roading, just trails typically. Stock trucks are beyond capable.

I'm glad to know this is common, I have a '96 and it does it all the time. No matter long its been sitting it still does it. I was about to have it checked out.

I went into the garage tonight and heard this noise for the first time. I was afraid something was broken but TW to the rescue. Love this site!

I heard the same noise from my Taco while sitting around the camp fire last Saturday night...freaked me out as well! I thought maybe some kids had planted something in my wheel wells. I was crawling around under the bed with a flash light, couldnt find anything. Turned the truck on then shut it off and it was gone.
    This is normal???

No mods- running boards, vent visors all around ,Leer XQ Cap, hood deflector, bed extender, OEM roof rack, Toyota bed mat.Nothing fancy!
Does any one know- after a period of time does the actual sound of the Evap. pressure system check get louder? I have never experienced it if the truck is sitting for a length time but I do experience every time the vehicle is shut down- doesn't matter if I have just done a short hop to the store or a long trip. and as I said , it sure appears to be getting louder. I talked to Toyota Service and as stated they say it is normal but it seems awful loud.

I noticed the noise coming from my truck this morning at 2:00am, pushed start button and noise went away. Our '05 Highlander has made the same noise, glad to know it is normal,,,,,
I now have 7900 miles on new Tacoma, so far so good. 20/22+mpg.
