    This one is strange.

I recently plugged in my shiny-new ultragauge. I love this thing, but it seems to be doing something weird to my truck. Whenever I turn the ignition off, with the ultragauge plugged into the OBD II receptor under the dash, my airbag light faintly glows. This only happens when the Ultragauge is plugged in, and, only after the ignition is shut off and the key is removed. It's pretty faint, so I've only noticed this behavior at night.

The airbag on my truck scares me. It seems like a high-dollar failure. This is (hopefully) an exaggeration, but I don't want to walk out to my truck one morning to go to work only to find both airbags deployed.

    Thoughts?

I've filled out a support request on their website. I'll post what they reply.

I did put in a support request. The reply said that they had no idea of why this was happening, and, that I was the only person who had complained about it. The airbag light is still faintly on; it's so dim that I can only see it at night. No ill affects so far, however.

I had this problem, but with a !scan Guage. My solution was to leave it unplugged. Start the truck and plug it in. That was it. If it was connected to the OBD port when the battery was disconnected then reconnected in would cause the same symptoms.

My UG was not set (the default) to turn OFF and I had a very small parasitic drain as a result. I reset the UG and solved my problem. Perhaps your gauge has a similar issue - UG quickly attempts to establish communication again. This communication in turn causes the vehicle's systems to remain on indefinitely (or maybe your air bag lamp) and results in battery drain. Mode 2 resolves this issue.

Following is from the UG manual:
Battery Drain: This discussion generally applies to newer vehicles which use the CAN protocol or vehicles with electrical system issues. When the ignition is switched from RUN to OFF, the vehicle's electrical system modules stay active drawing battery power for several minutes. Over time various systems enter lower power modes and the drain on the battery decreases. However, UltraGauge can cause these systems to not enter low power mode. Normally once UG has detected ignition off, UG will enter a low power mode and wait for the vehicle's systems to become active at the next ignition on. However, since the vehicle's electrical systems do not shut down; UG quickly attempts to establish communication again. This communication in turn causes the vehicle's systems to remain on indefinitely and results in battery drain. Mode 2 resolves this issue.
