I use to own a Taco and life at the time I had no need for a truck. Long story short I found myself owning a 2015 Jeep GC Eco Diesel.

The MPG is amazing for the vehicle, I can get 700+ miles on a tank of fuel. City driving is like 24 mpg. Driving up I70 to ski or the canyon roads it cruises at 70mpg at 2200 rpm where the taco would be screaming over 3500. I have had 2 issues with the exhaust though. If you dont drive HW speeds often the filter can get destroyed and needs replaced and 2 dealers told me it wasnt covered under warranty. When this happens the car will only drive 30 mph until its fixed. So about $300 later the Jeep is back to normal.

Anyway....now that this issue is out I am considering trading it in for maybe a Taco again or a V6 Jeep. Its mostly a work vehicle anyway. Im not surprised by this but not often do you find a vehicle of that size getting that good MPG. I wish the Taco was more fun to drive, it would make my decision easier.

I know that i70 route, used to live in vail for 10 years. That's a brutal drive up Eisenhower pass and up and over vail pass. It will test any vehicle's power. Diesels are not affected by altitude as much as gassers. I used to have several fj60 land cruisers and trying to make it up and over the passes was a combination of drafting and hoping an Rv didn't attempt to get into the left lane and block you on the uphill. Went back a couple of years ago in my Mercedes 3.0 turbo diesel and it pulled like a freight train all the way up to 10,000 ft and it was 30 years old(pre-emissions).
Sorry to hear about your problems with your jeep. Sounds like stupid over killing emissions have ruined what is otherwise a great engine. The ultimate goal of the EPA is to force everyone to drive a Prius.

Ha, you obviously need to KNOW MORE! Heavy equipment/off road has EPA standards and has for years, just like auto. There are breakdowns to what the requirements are regarding HP and other factors, but just about anything made in the last few years has similar devices to auto or beyond. The only exemptions would be to the GOVT vehicles.

I fail to see why the EPA is being scapegoated for these emission scandals. Their regulations might be a pain for some, and I have a certain amount of empathy for them, but the impact on the vast majority is negligible.

It was a different case 40 years ago when auto manufacturers had to comply with new EPA requirements (catalytic converters, etc). The engines that were being produced by American auto manufacturers were lethargic and downright terrible. That was mainly because before then, Detroit has never considered fuel efficiency or emissions. But change is one of the parents of innovation, and within ten years or so years Detroit was designing engines that had the horsepower of pre-EPA regulations engines.

That being said, I have zero sympathy for companies whose answer to EPA requirements is to cheat the system. They don't want to innovate and instead opt to lie to our government and the consumers, that's on their head.

How much emissions did the current administration spew when they flew both air force 1's( yes there are two) and the HUGE entourage of people and military equipment that accompany them to the Paris Accords? What's good for the goose isn't good for the gander.

Yeah its a great vehicle for the area, lots of canyon roads and Im in WY frequently as well. doing that type of driving as well as off road, there aren't many better engines available and the GC itself is pretty nice and looks great. I wish the taco wasnt so boring to drive and the TRD isn't too far off from the Tundra TRD. I might entertain trading it in....we will see. I miss having a truck though and now my wife can have the Suv.
