I've been told this by a few people, however I need permanent storage for the bed that is harder to get into as I keep all my recovery gear and tools in there.

My toolbox isn't big enough for everything, so I keep my tools in a Plano box with 4 padlocks and a cable on each end of the box secured to the bed to keep it from running off. When I go into the city I'm not likely going to need the tools so I pull it out and leave at home.

Check craigslist often, I check it everyday. That's where I found this one. Also local city auctions or PD or Fire Dept hold auctions also. This drawer was purchased at a city auction. A lady bought an Explorer that was a Battalion Chiefs car and had this drawer in it. She had no use for it, so I got it for $250, regular $1200. She posted on Craigslist and had it there for a month before I saw the post, I took a shot and luckily she still had it. The thing about purchasing PD or Fire Dept stuff is they buy stuff to last so this thing is solid. Powder coated steel with heavy duty drawer slides rated for 500#. I'm checking local auto auctions and city auctions for a bed slide next.

If you want to take a stab at fixing it, see if you can get the metal zip stops pried off, if not you could try to cut just the first couple coils off where the zip stops are, you'll lose that 1/8"-1/4" of zipper but it's better than a broken zip, and seal up the cut material with a little heat from a lighter. You can then remove the zipper pull. Buy a new #10 zipper pull on Amazon, a local craft store, or somewhere like Ripstop By The Roll or Rocky Woods Fabrics or the 1000 other places the carry them.

Putting the new zipper slider on could work a couple ways, the pulls are directional, meaning the inside and outside have different offsets to them. Hard to describe so look at this pic.

Either you get a single sided pull (like is on there now) and try to jam it on in the same orientation. It's not easy cause it's backwards, but I have done it in the past.

    OR

You can get a double sided pull like in the picture, put the zip slider on backwards from original, and cut off the interior little pull. You'd want to cut the actual piece off you grab because having it inside the cover will make it difficult to reverse directions without jamming. Then crimp on some new zip stops

Be careful doing it this way. YKK in America is different than YKK from Cnina. These will not work as it is like metric to standard. Teeth in the US are even number and in China odd number. Great idea just we already been down this road.

Asking purely for the sake of my own learning, are you saying a Chinese #10 is a different width from a US #10 zipper width? I thought zipper sizes were always in mm?

They are not the same. We have gone through it numerous times. We finally started bringing in the zipper heads from China. Not to say things cant change but as of a few months ago it was not. It has everything to do with the teeth count. (example)We have an 8 here and its a 9 from there.

looks like i never posted on the cool kids thread haha anyway this was my setup before i sold the truck
    20170204_164024.jpg 20170204_164043.jpg
had the tent and arb awning on a roof rack and everything else in the back of the truck with a softopper.
long story short, i sold the roofrack and softopper and right now everything is mounted on a trailer im still working on.
the new taco is a blank canvas and im just asking for suggestions here.
i plan on keeping the tent on the trailer most of the time for family camping, but there will be ocassions when i go camping by myself to go wheeling or mountain biking and dont wanna take the trailer
what would be a good idea to transport some gear, bike and tent. i saw the voodoo bed rack and RCi bedrack, like the fact that the tent will sit right or maybe a hair above roofline, trying to get a midhight bedrack and still be able to fit stuff in the back of the truck.
old truck never saw good mpg with the tent on the roof lol and the wind noise gets old haha on the bright side i was able to carry a lot of stuff

Nice looking setup!! I'll be going with the CBI overland bed rack for when I do mine but both the voodoo and RCI are very nice so I'm sure you'd be happy with either one.

I've been getting some mixed feedback around putting a RTT on a shell. I was thinking of doing the ARE Overland series shell. Will have 2 humans, and 3 dogs about 50-60lbs each. I don't know much about distributed load ratings and whatnot, but heard conflicting things that says not to do that and some do it all day long?

I got the package yesterday. Thank you so much. I'll probably try to tackle the replacement in a couple weeks while I'm at my parents house in FL. I went camping this past weekend and had to unzip/zip by hand. It wasn't bad but it was slightly inconvenient. Haha.

Camping with one of my TW brothers.

What are you asking for it? How long/how many times has it been used? What kind of shape is it in?

Why are you selling it? I have been back and forth on theses and there seems to be a lot of unused or slightly used products out there secondhand and I want to know why!

I have a standard Vista shell with Yakima tracks and bars. A 3 person tepui tent (120lbs?) and Arb awning mounted. Sleep with 2 adults usually up top, but sometimes add 90lbs for 2 kids if they don't sleep in the annex. I've had no issues with the weight.
