@tsub345 When I did my roll-my-own version I pulled the connector out of the ECU, then released the tab holding the metal parts inside the white connector housing, and soldered the power lead to the crimp.

See the posts from the last few days in my DIY thread in my signature for a picture of the connector and a little more detail.

@Paul123 for 2nd gens I got the Avital remote start and alarm. Now I am a mechanic by trade so for me it was super easy. However the instructions were very clear and step by step. You shouldn't have a problem.

Got my smart start installed this past Thursday, super easy install for anyone who is contemplating! Plug-and-play except for a ground wire! I found the range on the key fob didn't work too well for me, so I love being able to start it with my phone.

Do all aftermarket remote starters kill the engine when you open the door?

Also, does the kit include all wire taps/connectors?

None get around Toyota's wish to kill the engine on door open with PTS Tacomas, not even repurposed OEM Toyota remote start modules intended for other Toyota vehicles. It is what it is with no expectation that it might change in the future.

Yes, all starter kits kill the engine when you open the door, no way around it. I personally don't find it to be a problem at all.

The kit does not include wire taps, as we've found them to be unreliable.

My did not killtheengine whenyou open the door. It only killed the motor whenyou put your foot on the brake to put it in gear. Only way around it is when you get in the truck you have to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position. Of course mine is not a push button start

Exactly. Different behavior since you have to put a key in the ignition.

I wonder if it's possible to convert from the push start to a keyed ignition? Is there any info on people doing this?

Most things are possible given enough money. By all means go to Partznet and start summing up the necessary parts. Let us know what you come up with.

I don't find the shut down a big enough deal to justify even spending the time looking into it.

Not to mention that I'd hate going back to a conventional key far more than I'd like the truck to stay running.

Really, it's a much bigger deal in folks heads than it is in real world usage.

Finally installed mine. Just take your time and double check every wire as you do it! Thanks!

Front window tint match and windshield strip. Rubber bed mat. Running boards. Console insert. Husky floor liners. Exterior LED conversion with Diode Dynamic and Opt7. Low profile window visors.
Did you go with the DSM 300 or DSM 350? I'm researching the difference now and trying to figure out how much the upkeep (subscription) will be. I think I read that a subscription is required??

    Thanks

The info is out there... SmartStart Installation with DBALL2 Remote Start

    Differences: GPS based functionality.

Subscription required for it to work. You must choose the subscription type that's matched to your hardware. i.e. you can't put the non-GPS subscription on the GPS enabled DSM350.
